Oklahoma State tried to keep him but couldn't match the salary that Ohio State offered. He was making 800k with Oklahoma State, so he's probably making close to $1 million with OSU.

Good for him, he's probably the highest paid DC in the FBS, and he's certainly getting paid more than FCS head coaches make.

His current salary is probably pennies compared to what he received as Cornell's head coach.

Good Guy. Was always a first class and stand up guy at Cornell. He left when he realized that no matter how hard he tried, the enthusiasm for football with Cornells administration and student body just wasn’t there. (Still isn’t)Could of been a lifer at Cornell like Buddy Teevens at Dartmouth or Bob Surace at Princeton if he felt the love in return. Only one bad season. He was a great player and still has a lot of love for Cornell. Only wish him very best at Ohio State. They are getting one hell of a coach and gentleman

Sorry, but you're wrong on why he left Cornell. He said he took the Duke job because of the salary offered at that time.

Wasn’t about the money Floridared, DC job at Duke at that time paid a little more. He just had to get away from Cornell, no enthusiasm there. His way out was to take a PC position and not ruffle any feathers.

"he's probably the highest paid DC in the FBS"

He's have to be making more than $2.5 million to be the highest paid DC. That's what the Auburn guy was making. Venables was at $2.4 million as DC at Clemson.

Congrats to Jimmy. He is being rewarded for his hard work through the years. A true gentleman.

Funny though, a Michigan man coaching at Ohio State. Jimmy transferred from TTUN to Cornell. Had to sit out a year before playing.

Dave Archer is part of his coaching tree (Jimmy coached him). Maybe Dave could resign, become a Buckeye grad assistant to gain experience on how a football program should be run with Jimmy mentoring him.

My recollection is Jim came to Ithaca directly from St. Josephs Prep in Philadelphia. He is listed on the CU Roster in 84,85, and 86. Might I ask what is TTUN?

I suspect he means "That University Up North", (Michigan, to Woody Hayes), but with a typo.

Knowles is not listed on any Michigan roster that I saw. Maybe he was redshirted.

Perhaps he was confusing JK with tom mchale who actually transferred in from univ maryland. (And i am not sure if he had sit sit out a year or not as he was transferring down from 1a to 1aa)

Wow........congratulations to Jim Knowles. He was an excellent coach at Cornell but never received the administration support. I remember him saying at an alumni event "Hey if Harvard, Princeton & Yale are accepting the kid we should accept him too". Regardless Jim Knowles is being rewarded for years of hard work and commitment to his student athletes.
