Subject: Harv football zoom call with coach Murphy

A few days ago about 90 of us joined coach Murphy for a zoom call, and some interesting things emerged.

At various times he referred to the 8-2 season and the decision to go with the 9-1 mark on the rings, which I find counter-productive. The Prin matter has been adjudicated, however feebly, and it would be better to channel that energy into prepping for the spring and fall seasons.

Apparently QB Luke Emge plans to defer med school; he will take the spring off and return in the fall for his final semester and football. Injured QB Charlie Dean should be ready to go by spring and share time with promising frosh Conor Easthope. There is a fourth possibility, a recruit from New Jersey whom Murph was high on, but first he must clear the Early Action hurdle before any official announcement.

There seems to be support- with the Yale AD running interference on this one- for starting the season a week earlier. This change would make Ivy teams more competitive in their September games vs non-league foes who've played at least one more game. It would also allow for some rest during a bye week in October, provided an 11th game isn't added to the schedule.

Within the context of the current loony schedule restrictions (10 games, no post-season), the bye week idea is certainly one of the brighter I’ve heard. In exceptional circumstances, might even give a chance for an Army, Navy etc drop-in game mid-season.

Thank you for the info - did he give an idea of when they were looking for the schedule change proposal to be implemented?

Nothing on a time frame ......... but Murph likes the idea of a bye week and not playing ten weeks in a row, thereby reducing the strain on players and coaches.

An idea that I proposed on this board a few years ago, as a baby-step toward an 11th game. (pats self on back)
