In reply to: ivy guy 's message, "Ivy MBB Coaches" on 10:17:10 12/29/21 Wed

Jones is as good a choice as any for the top spot. To give Martin the nod for #2, you'd have to be grading on a curve due to the fact it's harder to win at Brown compared to HYP and Penn, especially in men's basketball where varying financial aid budgets can impact recruiting significantly.

I am trying to figure out what happened to Harvard. Amaker came into the League looking as if he would become the next Bill Self in the Big XII. Harvard has not been to the NCAA tournament since 2015 (though has shared the regular season crown twice in that time).

The best explanation that I can come up with is that it appears Jones is getting more leeway at the admissions office since Amaker showed up. The consistency exhibited by Jones in his 19 seasons is truly remarkable, but he did not win his first championship until 2015 and did not earn his first NCAA bid until 2016. (I don't count a tri-championship in 2002 when there are only eight teams in the conference. Finishing in the top 38% of the League does not a title make.)

So something changed in the past half dozen years. I think Jones is getting better athletes and I attribute that to Amaker.

Hmmm, leeway in the Admissions Office? Do you know that all 8 Ivy Admissions Directors meet at least once or twice a year to talk about things like this? If you think someone is getting away with something is pure jealousy. How many kids are recruited by multiple Ivy schools? That means everyone is seeing the same transcript.

If the above 50 word entry makes any sense, it's surely only to you. However, I have now determined that Coach Jones not only knows X's and O's; he actually knows your full identity, too.

I merely stated the facts about Ivy Admissions people meeting, and you on the outside know absolutely nothing about it. Why is my identity such a troubling issue for you?

Nevertheless, I'm willing to accept you've accumulated some privileged information about Ivy League undergraduate admissions procedures; given the fact that you were summarily rejected by all eight member schools before Halloween in that year you decided to waste so much of your parents' retirement monies bothering to apply- you'd have clearly done yourself more good in Vietnam back then.
And of course, what you've learned about the Ivies in all these years pales in comparison to what the Jones brothers of Half Hollow Hills know and have shared about you.

Sounds like you're a bit jealous of my Ivy League basketball and academic knowledge, but always willing to share and educate others not as fortunate to have access. Why is my identity so troubling for you? Do you know any of the others who post? Isn't that the beauty of these boards?

I have the highest respect for Ivy student-athletes, you're wrong again. Sacrificing their social and free time for the love of their sport without scholarship aid, often in front of tiny crowds and non-supportive student bases, in football with no chance of playing for a national championship, incredible sacrifice. Not sure where you ever got the idea of the mockery, you couldn't be more wrong.
