You gotta love Pac-12 commisioner Teresa Gould. The conference held its football media conference today.

There are only two teams left in conference? No problem.

There will be literally only one conference game this season? No problem.

I'm calling it here. The winner of the Washington State-Oregon State game will have the inside track on the conference championship.

There was a pretty full media attendance today and the conference rewarded them with an open bar. After the two coaches spoke, commisioner Gould announced, "We're gonna drink. If there's one conference which has earned the right to drink, it's the Pac-12."

Considering the "conference" still has media rights to college highlights of games featuring Marcus Allen, Troy Aikman, Lew Alcindor, Bill Walton, Bronny James, Cheryl Miller, Reggie Miller, Marshawn Lynch, John Elway, Barry Bonds, Mike Mussina, Tiger Woods... cheers to that.

Yes, absolutely.

I would imagine that one of the reasons why the Pac-12 twelve held a media day conference for a two-team conference is to go through with all the normal routines of any conference in mid-July.

Washington State and Oregon State are well advised to continue business as usual, all the while pressing ahead to hold all ten of the departing members to their exit fees and other obligations, financial or otherwise.

Many expect WSU and OSU to eventually merge with the Mountain West. If so, those parties could agree that, like any self-respecting corporate reverse acquisition, the surviving legal entity would be the Pac-12 rather than the MWC. That would leave the Pac-12 alive and well, free to continue chasing after USC and UCLA et al for all monies owed. I wish WSU and OSU well. They should fully capitalize on being divorced by their spouses.

It could very well be that, someday, when UCLA wants to broadcast highlights of Bill Walton in his hey day, royalties would be paid to WSU and OSU.

Yes, exactly. And don't forget about charging the Big 10, Big 12, and ACC fees for using any old highlight promo clips for their new members.
