In reply to: Norman 's message, "Are the Sprint football players allowed to play varsity football?" on 17:01:43 07/28/24 Sun

That’s a good question. Two years ago Cornell reassigned about a dozen players from their conventional team to their Sprint team. I’ll have to look further into that to see where these players ended up. Five years ago Army’s sprint football Kicker joined the traditional football team after the CSFL season ended. He was their starting kicker from November to their bowl game. On occasion Sprint Football teams had to forfeit due to insufficient players available. It would wise if these schools that have a regular team to send them to the Sprint team for experience. Sprint football teams aren’t allowed to recruit. I’ve heard of “undersized” walk-on’s being referred to the school’s sprint team.

When I was at Cornell we had some players go between programs primarily to the Lightweight football team, but they would also come up once in a while. If I were a varsity WR, DB, QB of Sprint size sitting the bench not even traveling on the varsity, to me moving to the lighter weight team is a no-brainer. Trust me I have lots of experience sitting home when the varsity traveled . If they're all league in Sprint Football I am sure the varsity program would give them another look.
