Congratulations to Penn's Christina Khosravi and Princeton's Jamie Lettire, who were today named Ivy softball co-players of the year.
Khosravi was also the sole player of the year two seasons ago, giving her what I consider the most impressive Ivy athletic feat which occurs with at least some frequency: the two-time Ivy player of the year in any sport. (There have been four two-timers in softball.)
Incidentally, Lettire's achievement gives Princeton a total of eleven Ivy players of the year this academic year. Of the thirty-three Ivy sports, rowing squash and fencing do not name players of the year, yielding twenty-six sports which do.
In the unlikely event that Princeton generates both the male and female outstanding athlete of the meet during this weekend's outdoor track championships, Princeton will have won fully half of the twenty-six players of the year awards.
It is even more remarkable that this distinction might conceivably occur during 2007-08, when Princeton is having one of its weaker athletic years since the early 1990s.
