Congratulations to the Columbia baseball team in winning the Ivy crown. In terms of news coverage a lot depends on the sports information departments relationship with the various newspapers and radio/TV stations in their area. I have talked to a number of members of the media and just like anything else, they're more likely to print an article or put it on the 6:00 pm news if they have timely information.

It also has a large part to due with viewership and readership expectations ... the NYT likely feels that less than 1/10th of 1 percent would be interested in Ivy baseball playoffs. Sprint likes to put blame athletic departments. Both schools likely had SIDs there and had the restlts reported within 20 minutes of the completion of the event.

With so many of the Sulzbereger family graduates of Columbia and other Ivies, many readers ivy alums, and its unofficial claim to be the paper of record, I thought even an AP story would have appeared, at least on line.

Nobody cares about Ivy League baseball. Minor sport.

This from the guy who is starting threads about women's lacrosse poll rankings.

I get the feeling that you define "minor sport" as any one in which Penn is not winning.

I quote from that string:
"I'll enjoy it but it does say something about the Penn sports year that this is all I have to hang onto. Go ladies."

And, btw, Columbia's success in baseball hasn't provoked a string. It has provoked an deluge.

Well, Foehi, I'll grant you that you did keep the Quakers' lacrosse accomplishment in context. But, on the other hand, you did start a thread about women's lacrosse poll rankings, just as I said.

My point is "What's the harm in letting Columbia fans enjoy their success in baseball?" I agree with you that they are prone to overreaction when the Lions win a game, let alone a championship. But who can begrudge them their enthusiasm?

Columbia fans are excited precisely because they have not had much to celebrate over they years. I give them credit for wandering the desert for years, but still thinking that the next season might bring rain.

By the way, I'll bet that, over the past two or three years, Columbia has won more Ivy titles than Penn. Don't criticize Lion fans too much for their manic self-congratulations. You might be feeling the same way in another year or two.

Pictures of the Columbia Baseball team on the schedule.

Just thought you would like to see these Foehi, as I'm sure that Columbia fans would as well.

You could make a large batch of wine with the sour grapes you are putting out there Foehi. I'll admit that Penn has a great tradition in basketball and football; and is a fine school - so I'm surprised that you begrudge Columbia fans and the baseball their moment in the limelight.
