Even if Columbia goes 10-0 in football and 27-0 in basketball, the giants and knicks will still lead every new york daily. that's the fact. Author: Sprint66 [Edit] Date Posted: 17:04:03 05/10/08 Sat Hey Huh....Yale (which is basically a NY suburb and former home of the NY Jets) and Harvard in Boston traditionally lead the Ivy League in home football attendance every year. So I don't understand your arguement. In 2006 and 2007, Cornell football had 5-5 identical records, but in 2007 the Cornell athletic department made a real effort to improve attendance and drew over 10K for their first three home games and averaged just shy of 9K for the season, compared to 5K average the previous year. Additionally, Cornell really did an excellent job of promoting basketball this past season and we had sell-out or near sell-out crowds all season. This is a team that previously drew crowds in the 500 - 600 range. Sure we won the league but we didn't know that back in November. Additionally the Cornell basketball team received much better media coverage this season as well. Same goes for our lacrosse team. So whether it's Columbia baseball (great job Lions!) or any other Ivy team, if we advocate for our teams we'll get better attendance which leads to better media coverage, which ultimately leads to better recruiting, and better quality play. However, Cornell and Yale have a bit of an advantage over the others (except Dartmouth). There is absolutely nothing else to do in Ithaca or New Haven. In addition they do a good job of marketing to attract the family crowd . It helps that the Yale-Harvard game attracts 50k every year. Winning is also the best tool to attact fans. If CU had a winning tradition we would easily attract 3 or 4 k more fans . This year Cornell basketball was predicted to win the league and they were coming off of a 9-5 year in 2007. Being close to NYC definitely helps but there are also lot of Yalies living conveniently close by to go to the games.
