I agree that while Penn and Harvard are clearly superior to Columbia, the Lions do have the talent to win 3-4 Ivy games, and that's what's so frustrating. Dartmouth has less talent, but they overachieve and have won two games so far. Columbia could have beaten Yale and Lafayette and should have beaten Dartmouth and CCSU. Just two of those four and this season would look a whole lot better.

In the end, it comes down to coaching. This team has not dealt well with adversity, whether it's an early onslaught by Harvard or a late surge by Yale (or Lafayette). Fordham was really the only game where they were challenged and withstood it. If Wilson can't teach these guys how to roll with the punches and how to seal the deal when they're ahead (and of course how to hold onto the damn ball), he'll be gone after next season.

Lion Loyalist, that's a good analysis, although whether Wilson will be gone when his contract expires is debatable due to other factors besides wins and losses. Certainly something is amiss when we keep making blunders like a poor opening kick-off, "illegal formation" on a touchdown (Brackett's nice scamper and leap into the endzone), sideline penalties, and many others. Calling a qb rollout with Bell on third and inches from the 1-yard line was another glaring error, maybe easy to see in hindsight but just too obvious to ignore. Whatever discipline and determination the team had early in the season seems to be out the window. The injuries have hurt, of course, but consistently failing to rise to the occasion is a sign of a deeper problem.

"Dartmouth has less talent, but they overachieve"

By beating a Columbia team that was overrated because it beat a weak Princeton team and then had key injury problems to boot, and by beating a Cornell team which has a terrible road record, fades in the second half of the season, and lost to Princeton?? This is what a 17 game losing streak, including an 0-10 season, and a 13-50 Ivy record in the last 9 years before this year will do -- it will make those two wins look like chicken salad. If they beat Brown, then they will have overachieved.
