..... Many people find HOPE in the various interpretations and forms of religion/belief systems all over this planet. Millions are having to deal with all sorts of problems and they may think that everybody and everything is AGAINST them. But they are/were told that God in heaven is FOR them, "loves" them, and will reward them for all their suffering after they are dead. That makes it much easier for them to struggle along.
