...doesn't necessarily fit the bill for the modern USA. If you drive across your state you will almost certainly use part of the Interstate Highway system, and you will put government-subsidized gasoline in your car. You will stop and perhaps buy a banana that was grown somewhere outside the USA or a salad made with lettuce picked by foreign workers in California. You'll see black people who are not slaves, and women with the right to vote, and you will see many, many more people than ever before in our nation.

All of these things have complicated consequences. If you really want to get back to a simpler time, become Amish.
