If there were only 2 boys and 1 man, the two boys could go across the river. One boy would get out and stay on the opposite side. The other boy would go back across the river and let the man get in the boat, while the boy got back out and stayed on the same side they started on. Then, when the man rows across gets out on the other side, the boy that got out of the boat the first time would get back in and go to the side they started on. He would let the other boy get on with him and they would paddle across together. So, in the end everyone is on the opposite side. :)
