For every one or two people like you and me, who believe we should exercise personal restraint in expressing opinions which are "abhorent", there are millions of ordinary citizens who any conniving politician worth his salt can and will easily convince that such "abhorent" opinions should be made illegal. Such citizens suffer from the most basic of human weaknesses: ego and the overestimation of one's self, which is the prime reason that conniving politicians are able to convince them that they deserve, and could actually exist in, a "utopia".

That's why I don't see this drive toward Shangri-la being destroyed by impaction upon the cold hard truth of reality (i.e.: ending) anytime soon, nor do I see "citizens" admitting to any human frailties. They're better than that, far too good than to have to admit to their own limitations, their own humanity. Divine politicains like the impeached Clinton have convinced them otherwise.

And that's why I see this as a slippery slope.
