Southern Utah dedicates Norton Strength and Conditioning Center

Southern Utah University dedicated the Charlie and Renee Norton Strength & Conditioning Center in ceremonies on August 20, in conjuntion with the University athletic department's annual Barbeque with the 'Birds fund-raising dinner. Completion of the Charlie and Renee Norton Strength & Conditioning Center is the latest step in Southern Utah University's campaign for athletic success. Finalization of the project was made possible by a $100,000 donation by the Nortons.

Located in the east wing of the J.D. and Alice Harris Center, the conditioning center is a 3,300 square foot facility containing 4.5 tons of strength & conditioning equipment. With a surrounding view of SUU's beautiful athletics complex, the facility provides year 'round conditioning opportunities for each and every Southern Utah athlete.

Contained in the center are six weight platforms, seven racks, a dumbbell area with two racks of weights and five benches as well as several pieces of assisted equipment. The facility also houses a plyometric area with boxes and equipment, speed and agility training aids, sleds and resistance equipment. In addition, the facility boasts an integrated stereo system and several flat-screen televisions.

"The completion of the Charlie and Renee Norton Strength and Conditioning Center marks the culmination of several years of hard work on the part of many athletic supporters and donors as well as many within the athletic department," SUU Director of Athletics Tom Douple said. "Without the dedication, help and donations of many people this facility would not have been possible."
