Subject: Just a bit impatient!

Okay, I'll admit it, at times during the summer since I got out of basketball I have some time on my hands in the morning to just surf the net. I found terra server which gives you ariel photos of the earth and have taken a good look at a number of universities in the Gateway Football Conference. Even though I love Hanson Field, it really needs an upgrade compared to most of the other stadiums, (excluding ISU x 2). Of course I am not stating anything that we all don't know.....I know the track has been resurfaced, lights have been improved, the north entrance is quality, and I would not trade the game day environment for the world, but the press box is still poor, the seats are beginning to peel and for one of the premier 1AA teams in the nation, it just doesn't have it! I know the major problem is money.....and more important, the university is treading water waiting for the governor to release the planning and building funds for the performing arts center before it starts a major drive for cash. I am sure the new vice president was chosen for his ability to raise funds as Dr. Mortier successfully did. I know the university has a strategic plan, a plan for renovation and constructiion to go along with the next major drive, we have all seen the future plans for Hanson, and yet we wait. We wait for the Governor to get off his high horse and to release the funds in a politically responsible manner. Construction has not stopped at the U of I, Northern just finished their new basketball and concert venue, ISU is rehabbing their arena, and EIU and WIU continue to sit and wait. Guess we have to. My frustration probably also has something to do with the fact that my daughter continues to look for a job in a tough economy. Since 1971, I have always had a large spot for WIU in my heart. And after attending freshman orientation with my daughter in late June, I am truly impressed with where the university has gone and where it is heading. But you have got to spend money to make money!! Oh well, guess I will just take alook at the Thompson Hall webcam once in a while to see if construction has begun on the baseball stadium.

Hope the new def coor. uses the Kiss and Kas methods this fall. (Keep it simple stupid/Kick a-- Saturdays)

jc
