Subject: Mid-Con to run new football conference?

An article about a proposed 1-AA western football-only conference with North Dakota State, Cal-Poly, South Dakota State, UC-Davis, Northern Colorado, St. Mary's and Southern Utah has NDSU AD Gene Taylor saying this:

"Taylor said the proposed league might look to the Mid-Continent Conference to help manage it. Southern Utah is a member of the Mid-Con, which does not have football.

For a fee, the Mid-Con would act as the conference office and handle matters like statistics, media and NCAA regulations."

This would probably be similar to what the Missouri Valley does for the Gateway.

I wonder if this would do anything to WIU football, and would some of these schools then try to join the Mid-Con for everything else?

Both Cal-Poly and UC-Davis belong to the Big West for basketball (Davis is a new addition). St Mary's belongs to the WCC.

That leaves the 3 schools from the D2 North Central Conference. I am sure they all would love to join the Mid-Con. Actually all 3 plus SUU would jump at the Big Sky but they do not seem interested. To me the Dakota schools would fit in nicely in that league.

Should nothing else come along look for those 3 to join IPFW, Texas A&M CC, UTPA and Utah Valley State in a conference just to hold them over until something better comes along.

Four of those schools held an Independent season end volleyball tourney this fall, perhaps as step 1 in the conference process.
