Subject: Men's BB practices

Anyone seen, or going to see, the men's practices? Seem's I read somewhere that they begin shortly. Would be interested in hearing any comments on how the new players look- compared to what they have had in the past.

Would love to hear some observations of practice also! I know that the big preview night (Late Night" is gonna be held on Monday. I really think the team will be much improved but Thomas has really put together a great schedule and I hope we can come out of it with some positives. Tough to compete against the Big Ten and Pac 10 with 9 new guys and 4 returners of which only two were true returning starters. I have no doubt that sooner or later the job is gonna get done. Time for WIU to be "Gonzaga" like!

I have heard the two freshman really stand out early on. The kid from Memphis and the kid from Arkansas are going to be special as soon as they make the adjustment. Coach Thomas is concerned that his two big kids (Cepeda and Lasik) could be out 4-6 weeks each with broken fingers. This will hurt their development. I agree though, this could be a midwest Gonzaga with the talent Thomas is bring in.

I hope you are correct- regarding the talent level.I'm actually beginning to get excited about the possibilities. Do they believe they can move up in the MidCon- and stop some of this disrespect other programs seem to have regarding the Neck's?

I get so tired of hearing about Valpo, and their 30 something foreign players.

LOL. It seems all Valpo has are foreign players. One thing for sure is that Coach Thomas has brought up the level of talent, which I think is now in line or better with what is in this league. The key obviously this year is to see how quickly they jell. The tough early games should help, as long as the young guys don't lose confidence. It is a shame Baez has only 1 yr left. The guy is as good a talent in the league.

if you are tired of hearing about Valpo - then beat them. lot of folks are tired of hearing about WIU's I-A transfers in football. in either case, there is nothing wrong with it.

I was joking about their age.

Lasek had surgery on Monday and will be out only a little over two weeks, Cepeda broke the pionky on his shooting hand and won't be out long. All things considered this should be a real good year. Lots of talent on this team, just hope they can deal with such a tough early schedule

The possible short-term loss of Lasek is not a big deal. The kid needs to develop and will not be a factor but to lose a guy who is a Jr. and expected to play has to hurt a bit. I also am interested in how the team looks early on, I have read, read, read and read about how talented many of these new guys are but we have been down that road before so I want to know the scoop from someone who has seen them.

By the way, I see that Bradley U. played a number of games against teams in Canada these past 2 months. How do they get away with this and is it legal now? If so, why are the necks not doing this type of thing?

Most everyone is picking Western for 7th. I can't help but think they will be up 3-4 places, especially if what we hear is truei.e. new player talent.

ORU is very strong, but after that, I believe several other schools lost a lot of players. Hope they do well, maybe Western can surprise a lot of folks this year.

Women should be strong too. They need to win in the conference tourney!
