Subject: WIU/UCLA observations

Fox West2 announcers said we looked better than Chicago State. They had several positive things to say about Coach Thomas, his recruiting efforts, including going overseas a la Valpo, and his work for Charlie Spoonhour (who was at the game along with John Wooden). They also referred to a hundred million dollars in upgrades that is hoped to turn us into the 'Gonzaga of the Midwest'. What's with that?
Jackson had a couple of nice coast to coast drives.
Senor Baez had two impressive blocks, but couldn't shoot free throws for anything.
TJ Gray played pretty well, including thwarting a three-on-one break.
The team seemed to play hard for most of the game (except for an ugly dry spell in the second half--looked like when they shot, they didn't expect it to go in).

Hopefully, these early games will prepare the team for a positive conference season. We can only go up from last year.

Thanks for your analysis. Yeah, I don't know about this Gonzaga of the Midwest? Perhaps Western should win the conference for a few years, and make it into the NCAA before folks get too excited. Even .500 would be much improvement. The Mid Con is -I believe 2-10 with the "big schools" as of now. Is the conference going to be weaker this year? Doesn't bode well for RPI's.
