Subject: Potential new Mid-Con member's?

North Dakota State and South Dakota State have been turned away by the Big Sky. NDSU and SDSU now mention that the Mid-Con, Horizon and MVC are conferences to contact. The MVC told them they have no desire to add any schools. Horizon has not responded, Mid-Con always looking for new possibilities. They don't meet until June 2005,officially, but told NDSU that an informal meeting takes place during the tourney.

These folks aren't going to get into the MVC or Horizon- location- in my opinion. Would they help the Mid-Con? I still say some defections from the Mid-Con will happen . I see Southern Utah, UMKC or ORU as possible defectors. I still say Western and the Horizon would be good. Oh, well, should be happy with what we have.

There is no way the MVC would take them even if they were closer. The MVC would take WIU or ORU before they would consider an Dakota. Horizon surely would benefit WIU and they too would not welcome a Dakota. The horizon would look at Valpo, WIU, Oakland or Chgo. St. before considering anyone else.

If the Mid-Con does accept them, then i feel WIU needs to look elsewhere because with the future possibilities of IPFW, Utah Valley and the Dakotas the Mid-Con will be filled with new upstarts and will lose even more credibility. I forsee soon Valpo and ORU moving quickly and WIU, SUU & UMKC should follow soon thereafter.

I totally agree. I believe IPFW has been "promised" membership in the near future. I really don't know what they bring to the table. Other than the Horizon, Western is probably out of luck.If it wasn't for the GFC and football, the Ohio Valley would be palatable.

WIU would in no way jump to the OVC and leave the GFC.

One thing to consider is with the recent re-alligning of conferences and defections taking place, schools from the MAC, Horizon, MVC and maybe even a school from both the OVC and Mid-Con may be looked at to replace those who left. What this does is creates openings in those conferences where schools have left for bigger things. It is like a chain reaction, if: MAC loses school(s) look for UIC, Butler or YSU to consider a move(YSU is questionable unless they waive the football requirements). This leaves opening(s) in the Horizon for Valpo, Evansville, Ind. St., WIU, Oakland or Chgo. St., and maybe an OVC. If the MVC loses a school(s) like Creighton, SIU(again, football rquirements and SIU is in no shape to move to 1A) to CUSA and possibly Evansville & In. St. to Horizon or OVC it opens up for ORU, WIU, Valpo and others.

Of course again if schools move, the football rule will have to be re-worked to allow football affilliated schools who play 1-AA to not make the 1A jump if it is to a move like CUSA which plays 1A football. So do not rule out seeing WIU in the Horizon or MVC in the coming years.

The conference tourney came and went-with it's meetings for member schools. Apparently no expansion team(s)were publicly reported. New rumors are that the MidCon doesn't want IPFW- but, Northern Kentucky is bantered about as they seek to move up to D-1.This school ,and, the bulk of the Great Lakes Valley Conference -yes, they are D-2- could compete right now in the MidCon. Also, rumor has the Sun Belt desiring to get rid of the non-football schools, which could open up slots for Arkansas-Little Rock,Denver, and U of New Orleans. Any of these folks would help the MidCon's credibility.

Ironic-the only school that really wants to be in the MidCon is IPFW- and they can't seem to get in.
