Subject: Western's Academic Progress Report

Interesting article in today's Tribune regarding the NCAA's new APR formula for tracking academics and sports. Before I give any of the stats, yes, yes, yes, we all know there's an "explanation"- Oklahoma has educated us on that for several years. However, in my industry we are told- these are the end numbers, this is what it is, no one wants any explanation except explaining how it will improve.

A 925 score equates to a 50% graduation rate.Overall athletes, Men's BB,Football and Women's BB. Western had a 936 overall,850 Men's BB,890 Football, and a 942 Women's BB. Let's take a look at several other schools "similar" to Western. SIU- much higher scores across the board.Valpo-much higher scores across the board.NIU-higher in three of the four. ISU- much higher in three of the four. EIU- much higher in three of the four. Chicago State had a higher Men's BB rate.

Frankly,I'm embarrassed about this. Especially comparing with other state schools.Perhaps the bar needs to be raised a little at WIU.
