Just got off the ncaa.org site. Found the 2003 rates. Wow, what a jumbled list of numbers and astericks. If I'm correct-and someone verify-I'll hold any comments regarding the rates. I know transfers out etc can skew the numbers-but, here is what I found.Women's BB-47%,Football-48%,Men's BB-38% and Baseball-64%.

These were freshman numbers- transfer numbers were lower in most cases.

Again, before I comment, I'll wait until someone else verifies.

Noone else will tackle this? I think-except for baseball- they are pathetic! I am in favor of the NCAA penalizing schools for rates below 50%. Yes, this might lead to some tries at grade manipulation by the renegades, but, there needs to accountability. The students must learn it, and some educators must learn it. In the world of work and life, these types of results would never be condoned.

Why waste faculty time, staff and tax money like this?

I know trnsfers can skew these numbers, but , geez.

I agree with you. My idea would be to tie scholarship numbers to graduaton rates. For example: the university rate of graduation is 60% of students given five years. Athletic teams must also have corresponding rates of graduation or lose scholarships according to percentage of team members that fail to graduate. Does that make any sense? I'm not sure I explained that clearly.
