McDonough District Hospital and WIU Athletics Form Partnership
Target: Western Forward campaign enhanced again

MACOMB, Ill.— Stephen R. Hopper, President/CEO of McDonough District Hospital and Tim M. Van Alstine, Director of Athletics at Western Illinois University, jointly announce the formation of a mutually beneficial partnership.
Beginning with Western’s upcoming Centennial Football season, MDH will advertise hospital services in many of Western Athletics’ promotional venues including game sponsorships, scoreboards, season schedules and game tickets. In turn, Western Illinois Athletics will earmark advertising dollars received for the renovation and construction of a new Athletics Training Room, a component of the Target: Western Forward Facilities Campaign.
“We are very proud and excited about increasing our support of Western Illinois University,” said Hopper, “There is certainly a need to improve Western’s athletics training room and sports medicine facilities, which is obviously an area of special interest for MDH”.
The Target: Western Forward Facilities Campaign is a commitment to dramatically advance the Western Illinois Athletics Department in terms of facility improvements.
“McDonough District Hospital’s substantial commitment is certainly a most appreciated addition to our facilities improvement campaign,” said Van Alstine. “At the same time, this partnership reinforces the commitment both MDH and WIU have to supporting and advancing local interests”.
The Athletics Training Room is just one of several facility needs the Western Illinois Athletics Department has targeted as necessary to improve the student-athlete experience and continue the success of the University environment. The Athletics Training Room project is one piece of the plan that includes the construction of a new men’s basketball locker room.
Within the past two years, several facility improvements have already been completed including a new all-weather, state-of-the-art outdoor track, new broadcast quality lights at Hanson Field, new tennis courts and The Cathy Early Women’s Locker Room Suite (women’s basketball and volleyball locker rooms). With some funding already in place, renovation and construction will begin for a new baseball stadium in the coming months.
MDH joins Waste Management, Inc. and Citizens National Bank as local corporate entities supporting the Target: Western Forward Facilities Campaign.
