Don't know if Denver is a possibility, seems I read somewhere they were not a player. Yes, Centanary is a long way from SUU. If John's east/ west is a possibility, it could help the Mid Con survive. But, Western hopefully will keep their options open on a daily basis.
I'm not an expert in any way regarding NCAA bylaws. But, from other boards discussion, it seems the Mid-Con must keep it's current members for at least five years to keep the auto bid in BB. This with any new additions,Valpo leaving etc. Wow, this is scary. Do any Leathernecks know enough about this to explain? What about Baseball auto bid? Has this been affected?
I still wonder about the Ohio Valley. I know football would get hurt somewhat, but, we need to keep the entire WIU athletic program in focus.Should WIU just take a wait and see attitude. To me this is dangerous.We might look around and find WIU back with Chicago State.(wherever that might be)
The Mid-Con could lose it's automatic bid very easily.
The rules as I understand them are:
Seven of the conference schools must be D-1 the past eight years.
Six conference schools must be in the same conference for the past five years.
So the Mid-Con is in trouble.
I'm not a fan of the OVC, though we would be the perfect travel partner for EIU, too many teams in Tenn, Alabama.
Only EIU and SE Mo will be close to Macomb. But if the OVC is our only option then I'm all for it.
My take is, that the Mid-Con could lose one more current member, and still keep it's auto bid as long as they have added one new member(and probably more then just one to play it safe). Reason being I believe that Centenary just finished their 3rd year in the Mid-Con. Valpo is still a member though next season getting Centenary through year 4. The NCAA has a two year grace period that gets Centenary to year 5 and that makes them a counter for both requirments.
It looks to me that IPFW is a no brainer and I hope NDSU and SDSU are added to provide the Mid-Con with some much needed stability.
