Further, the continuity-of-membership requirement shall be met only if a minimum of six core institutions have conducted conference competition together in Division I the preceding five years in men's basketball. ANY MEMBERS THAT HAVE BEEN D-I PRIOR TO 2003 ARE "CORE-ELIGIBLE". IPFW - 2000, UT-PA sometime in 90's. Therefore, only have to be part of conference for 2 years to keep auto-bid.
Even if Centenary dropped out, the above would still be ok, as long as other schools (IPFW,SDSU,NDSU) replaced them.
Correct that is why if the Mid-Con adds IPFW (or Texas-Pan Am) they would have to lose 2 of the remaining 7 members to lose their auto bid. Again, not very likely.
