2006 Mid-Con Presidents Council Meeting concludes in Chicago

CHICAGO, ILL. — The Mid-Continent Conference Presidents Council held its annual summer meeting in Chicago, Ill., Tuesday. Among the topics of discussion at the Presidents Council meeting were expansion, membership issues and the conference’s upcoming 25th Anniversary.

The Presidents Council discussed conference expansion at length at the meeting. It was recommended that the conference proceed with site visits to three institutions - IPFW, North Dakota State and South Dakota State. The site visits will be scheduled over the summer. A full report from the site visit teams will be provided to the Presidents Council in a timely manner for review and action at a yet to be determined fall meeting.

“We are looking forward to the upcoming site visits and are in the process of scheduling those visits as soon as possible,” Mid-Con Commissioner Tom Douple said. “The site visit teams will consist of a member President, Athletics Director, Senior Woman Administrator and Faculty Athletic Representative, along with the conference Commissioner and the two Associate Commissioners. Each Mid-Continent Conference member will have representation during the site team visits.” . . . (read more)

So Rabbit, get the hutch ready cause the caravan is due to arrive soon! I really think this is a no brainer! I wonder how many MidCon schools you already face in other sports? I know both you and NDst were on the Necks baseball schedule. You are already in the swim conference. We play IUFW in a home and home series this coming season.

I have taken a look at all of your facilities along with NDst and IUFW.

I thought the comment from the Tulsa paper was very important because it says basically that ORU is not ready to go anywhere. Hey and what a surprise, WIU will host the baseball tournament for the first time ever with the new facility. I am extremely proud of it and supplied the picture that can be found when you initially go to Baseball facilities. I think your facility seats more but I also think it is used by a minor league team which is definitely an advantage. Your field house is very similar to Western Hall and it also looks very familiar??? Was it used in a basketball movie at sometime like "One on One?"

Anyway, I will be interested in hearing the comments from SDst!

Let me start by saying that the Jackrabbit Nation is very excited about today's news and we look forward to a day when we will be asked to join the Mid-Con.

I did a quick check of upcoming games in '06-'07 and this is what I know about:

Volleyball - UMKC, Valpo

Women's Soccer - IUPUI

Men's and Women's Tennis - Western Ill.

Men's Basketball - UMKC (poss. IUPUI at BCA Tourney)

Men's and Women's Swimming and Diving - Mid-Con member already.

Baseball - Valpo,

Softball - Valpo, UMKC,

*Football - Western Ill. (2007 at WIU, 2008 in Brookings)

We are also set to play NDSU and IPFW in many sports next year.

Frost Arena (Cap. 8,500) has not been in a movie that I know of. We play some of our Baseball games at Sioux Falls Stadium (Cap. 4,500) which is a Minor League ball park. We also play some games at Bob Shelden Field (Cap. 1,000). We are very hopeful that we will be asked to join you in the Mid-Con and have an opportunity to compete with all the members of the conference.

*Gateway Conference

Congrats to IPFW, North Dakota State, and South Dakota State. Look forward to seeing you compete in Macomb somedays in the future. Hope this is a long lasting, strong and growing relationship.I'm sure the site visits will go well, many of your facilities are outstanding.

Special mention to 89rabbit, the tireless promoter of North Dakota State----JUST KIDDING!
