Without getting into past coaches or AD's, why can't Western turn around this program? Really? I'm not real knowledgeable about BB, and was hoping the current coach would be the answer-contacts, coaching ability etc. But, the "prize recruits" just never seem to pan out. This goes back for many,many years. Is the BB budget limiting the recruiting of good quality student athletes in some way?
Western Hall isn't bad for this level.The school is stable with good academic programs. There must be something- some answer. This just never seems to go away. Any ideas if there are underlying issues?

There are many reasons.
Lack of tradition.
Hard to recruit black athletes to Macomb. Some schools with a tradition of winning and in the middle of nowhere can recruit the black athletes. But Western doesn't have that winning tradition and an inner city black kid isn't going to find Macomb an attractive option.
Bad hires. Some head coaches were terrible. Some of the assistant coaches belong in youth leagues.
I think getting a new arena would be a huge boost but it will be very hard to get that funded.
I've heard that Western pays coaches among the lowest salaries in the Mid-Con. If that's true then they need to find the money to pay the coaches better.
