I have a engraver here in New Zealand who has nae most of my instruments and a few parts from brass. Over the winter while "Ice Maiden" is having a refit this engraver will be checking the accuracy of the instruments and will add a few more to the navigation kit. The astrolabe is the most important instrument on board, followed by the cross staff and back staff. I do carry a sextant but very rarely use it. If I can obtain a set of plans for ancient instruments then I will have it made. I have acquired some replicas from England and have used them. But it must be remembered that some of these instruments were only able to be used in the northern hemisphere and appropriate modifications must be made for their use in the southern hemisphere.
