Subject: mainsail downhaul

I've been thinking of ways to solve the problem of getting my mainsail down in a hurry while singlehanding. I experimented today with tying a line to my second reef point (the part that would become the tack of a double-reefed main). This works well, but there's still a lot of sail left to get down. I also tried attaching the line just below the head of the sail, but my sliders get jammed in the track.

Anybody have any luck with this? Or have a different way of dropping the main fast?

When I'm coming into the marina downwind and singlehanded with heavy wind, I really don't have a lot of time to spend away from the tiller fucking around with the main. It'd be really cool to get a downhaul system set up that works so you can just do everything from the cockpit.

Maybe I'll just buy a boom furler system, LOL.
