Robert has got a pretty high aspect main with an extruded slot with slugs and those just suck for easy take down. The old bronze track much better for fast drops.

I agree though, spray the crap out of the slugs with dry silicon lube, it will probably help. The inside of the slot is probably all crudded up too. I have found as well that lashing a main to slugs or cars is best as the cheap little shackles though fast to put on don't have enough available twist in them to take the sail's collapsed shape, and of course then they bind.
