I installed an Airhead in my boat about four years ago. It definitely beats a marine toilet and holding tank. No smell, no thruhulls, and uses only a tiny bit of power to run a computer fan. As with any composter, warmer temps mean faster composting. I live aboard in southeast alaska and I keep the boat near room temperature unless I'm traveling. The solids tank usually lasts 3 or 4 months. The liquids tank lasts 4-5 days. I bought an extra liquid tank so I can switch them out and dump at my leisure. The airhead really does compost---however....when the solids tank is full, you actually have a combination of materials at various stages of decomposition, i.e. the newest additions will not have composted. So I only dump it in the harbor portapotty. Its an annoying but simple job, and I only have to do it 3 or 4 times a year. Certainly no worse than a pumpout station.

That said, I think the Airhead is way over-priced. Its essentially a plastic bottle and a bucket with a handcrank mixer and and a outlet vent. If I had to do it again I think I could build one out of commonly available materials. Might not look as elegant as an airhead but would probably work just as well and cost less than $50 for the parts.
