Hello, My great, great grandfather James Henry Shaw who was a convict sent to Tasmania (we was a goldsmith and had stolen some tools in London), later changed his name by deadpoll to Sharland and moved to New Zealand. I am wondering if Michael Stanley is any relative or descendant of him too. My great grandfather (James Henry's son) was James Frederick Sharland (born Shaw, before the name change), who I think may have been fetched from England after his father's sentence was served, or who may have been born in Tasmania. We have a pastel potrait of him at approx age 5, which has been confirmed by art experts to have been done by a Tasmanian artist by the name of Dowling. If any of this fits in with your own research feel free to correspond.
