It took everything inside of Michael’s body to keep him from walking up to the man that he now knew to be Nikita’s agent, and telling him to leave. Nikita had been pacing back and forth since she had left the office and Michael found the short, bald-headed man, with his nose stuck up way in the air, as someone he didn’t want near Nikita. Michael knew that he would only have to step in closer to him and the man would be scared.

But Michael was respecting what Nikita wanted to do in this situation. He had to give her that option. However, he wasn’t going to go far. He wasn’t going to let it get like it had with Jurgen. If Nikita started to cry, Michael was going to put an end of the meeting and send the man packing because he was on private property.

“Did you hire a bodyguard?” Mick questioned as he walked down the line of cars and blinked his eyes as he looked at the car that he knew to be Nikita’s. “What happened?”

“No, I didn’t hire a bodyguard. That is the owner of the camps. And Jurgen ran into the car when he arrived… and made sure that there was a lot of damage when he left,” Nikita coolly replied as she walked parallel to Mick but at about the middle of the parking lot.

“Owner of the camp?” Mick questioned as he glanced over at Michael. “He is scary… so is he afraid that I’m going to get you to leave and have you leave with your money?”

“I’m not going to discuss what Michael thinks is going on,” Nikita crossed her arms over her chest. She looked to the ground and Mick sighed. “Come on, Popsicle… I drove out here because I was worried.”

“Because I hung up on you,” Nikita pointed out and Mick nodded his head. “And I’m glad that I did. Look at your car! You must be stuck in the camp.”

“When I’m not traveling with Michael in his truck… Madeline lends me her car. I’ll get this taken care of,” Nikita spoke and Mick shook his head back and forth. “I’ll get a replacement car out here.”

“I don’t want a replacement,” Nikita declared and she watched as Mick rolled his eyes. “Are we back to the donation to the charity? You made you point. I should never have been so stubborn about that… and you can do whatever you want to do with your money. I got rid of that financial manager and turned over a lot more of the funds for your direct use!”

Nikita looked at the car and then back to Mick. “That car means something. I just want it repaired.”

“It’s practically totaled.”

“And I can afford to have it fixed,” Nikita snipped and Mick tilted his head to the side. “Jurgen isn’t paying for this?”

“I don’t want anything more to do with him,” Nikita declared as she glanced at Michael and saw him rubbing his hands together. She just wanted this over with. The words that she was struggling with were in her head, she just had to get them out. Nikita wanted to get back to the bits of fun that she was finding in camp. “Mick, you need to leave.”

“I just got here and we have a lot to talk about… Jurgen was causing problems… he could have done damage to your image…” Mick started to ramble until he saw Nikita close her eyes out of frustration. “Don’t shut down on me, Popsicle… when you give me that look I can’t tell what you are thinking… you just stop responding!”

Nikita opened her eyes, hearing some of what Birkoff had tried to say to her during the phone call. “Mick, I’m not ready to talk about things… and right now, if we do talk… I’d fire you.”

“What?”

“If you leave this parking lot and come into the camp… you’ll never work for me again… and I’m not sure if after this summer… that I still won’t fire you,” Nikita bluntly spoke as she dropped her hands and looked at Mick. “I’m not sure if this is right for us.”

“Popsicle… I tried to do everything for you…”

“But you don’t know who I am,” Nikita declared as she choked back to the tears. “Please, just go, Mick. I’ll call you when I’m ready to talk to you.”

“You are serious…”

“I found a voice when Jurgen pushed me… and I’m using it more… so yes… I’m very serious,” Nikita admitted as she stepped away from the spot she was in. Mick started towards his car and looked at Nikita. “I just want to be there for you.”

“You really haven’t been,” Nikita shook her head. “It hasn’t been about protecting me about the tabloids… I never wanted an agent that felt that it was more important to protect the person that the media thought I was… than to protect me.”

Mick dropped his head. He had a lot to think about. “I’m going to stay a couple towns over…”

“I won’t be taking any calls… and I won’t be calling. Go home to Birkoff,” Nikita turned and walked towards Michael. She heard the car door close and then she heard the slight turn over of his engine. Nikita stared at Michael’s eyes as she heard the car drive away.

And then she leaned right into Michael’s strong body.
