“I’m glad that we got out to shop,” Jurgen commented as sat at Kate’s office the Monday after Thanksgiving. He had been against going out Friday morning before dawn to shop, but Kate loved to do that activity. But then Jurgen got caught up with the deals and the atmosphere. “Maybe I can become a professional shopper or something.”
“I think you should just start your own practice,” Kate patted Jurgen’s knee as she glanced at the clock and noted that Nikita was late. That was highly unlike Nikita and Kate pushed the thought out of her mind as she had Jurgen there to keep her occupied.
“I have no where to start… and I don’t have those types of resources,” Jurgen shook his head from side to side. “I have an interview with Family Practice South.”
“They have like thirty doctors there,” Kate pointed out and Jurgen shrugged his shoulders. “It would be somewhere to start. I don’t have any resources or patients…”
“Nikita… Michael…” Kate started to list and Jurgen rolled his eyes. “I can’t have a whole practice based off of two people.”
“And their friends?” Kate pointed out and Jurgen shook his head back and forth. “I’m sure that it isn’t as bad as you think it can be…”
“It can be like it is here… I have equipment that is breaking and I can’t get approvals to fix it when it really should have been replaced years ago,” Kate looked back to the hip flexor machine that was down yet again as it was clear that the cable had broken this time. “I’d find a way to find the resources to start on my own.”
“That’s you,” Jurgen commented as he leaned forward. “And maybe we should stop talking about fantasy offices and talk about tonight…”
Kate smiled as Jurgen kissed her. She knew that this shouldn’t be going on, but she couldn’t help it. Since they went out, Kate wanted to be around Jurgen all the time. She loved that he wanted to come and hang out at her office. Part of it had to be that he was alone, but Kate still didn’t mind.
There was a slam and Kate pulled away to see that Nikita was up on the table and had dropped her crutches to the ground. It took a moment for Kate to process and she immediately pushed Jurgen away from her. “Nikita… what’s with the crutches? Did you overdo it this weekend?”
“No,” Nikita shook her head from side to side and then Kate saw how tired Nikita looked. It did not take much to realize that Nikita wasn’t tired because of good reasons. “I had a nightmare… and going to the bathroom... I twisted or hit it... I’m not sure…”
Kate looked down and saw slight swelling, but nothing else appeared around. Nikita turned her head and she forced a smile. “I was going to call you today, Jurgen… I was hoping you can help me…”
“With?” Jurgen moved towards Nikita. He had wanted to slip away but now he was seen. Although he wasn’t hiding his relationship with Kate, he wasn’t sure if he wanted the big large group to know what was going on, not until Jurgen knew what was happening in the relationship.
“Can you write me a prescription for something to sleep?” Nikita offered and Jurgen stopped in his tracks. This was not a good sign. “You were doing fine when I saw you on Thanksgiving… and you really need to talk to Adrian…”
“She said that I could start seeing a regular doctor…” Nikita stated and Kate touched her hands against Nikita’s knee, feeling that it was much tighter than it had been in a long time. Nikita even winced. “Nikita… when did this happen?”
“Ah… the night after Thanksgiving…”
“Why didn’t you call me on Saturday?” Kate inquired as she went to grab the heat and begin to warm up the knee before she took further measurements. It did not feel as if anything structural had happened, but definitely something had slipped backwards in Nikita’s progress.
“You were off,” Nikita blankly stated as she did not see why she would have called Kate at all. Kate glanced at Jurgen and he stepped closer to Nikita. “And this is when you started to have problems sleeping?”
Nikita nodded her head up and down. ‘Michael helped me get to bed… but the nightmares… they have come every night…” Nikita choked up as she turned her head away. Jurgen looked at Kate and shook his head. This wasn’t a good sign.
“Maybe you should go see Adrian and Mick after this,” Jurgen suggested and Nikita shrugged her shoulders. “Maybe Walter can take me… but I think they would want me to sleep.”
“Is Michael out at a meeting?” Kate tried not to be too interested, but she wondered what was going on between Michael and Nikita. Then Kate remembered what had happened on the porch at Walter’s. Kate got a chill and nodded to Jurgen to leave the area for now. “Having problems with Michael?”
“He is great,” Nikita commented as she shrugged her shoulders. Kate settled beside Nikita. “I can’t imagine that it has been easy for you since what happened on Thanksgiving.”
Nikita’s breath hitched and she swallowed hard a moment later. “I just want to sleep so Michael can sleep. I shouldn’t be interrupting his sleep.”
Kate couldn’t believe what she was hearing right now. Michael was probably not getting much sleep knowing that Nikita wasn’t sleeping well. “I think you should just tell him what you are worried about.”
“He has his own things,” Nikita shook her head from side to side. “I’ll be fine.”
Kate held her words. It would do no good for her to strain the relationship she had with Nikita right now. Nikita needed her to be her physical therapist and Kate was given a challenge now that Nikita knee was going in the wrong direction – it had gotten worse.
