Jurgen placed Nikita’s foot back down and sat back down onto the stool. “You really should see the orthopedic surgeon about this knee. It looks to be healing fine…”
“I trust you,” Nikita declared again as Jurgen was used to hearing this. “Dr. Kwan is a fine and respected surgeon, Nikita. I’ve seen him with numerous patients before. You should see him.”
“I will, in January,” Nikita admitted and Jurgen groaned. “Why didn’t you just tell me that sooner?”
Nikita shrugged her shoulders. “It was sore…”
“Nikita,” Jurgen declared with a chuckle. “You wanted to help me out by testing out the office?”
Nikita blinked her eyes and dropped her eyes. She had other motives for being there. Jurgen caught on quickly and stood up. “Why don’t I listen to your chest? Test out my stethoscope.”
Nikita grinned as Jurgen stood back up and pulled out the stethoscope. He was touched that Nikita wanted to make sure that he was ready for the office to be open. “You know, I did hire someone… a nurse who is going to run the reception area too.”
“Just one person?”
“Nikita, other than you and Michael… I have no other patients,” Jurgen pulled away and sighed. “Take a deep breath.”
Nikita took a breath and allowed Jurgen to press the stethoscope around and when he stopped she tilted her head to the side. “So who is this person?”
“Her name is Gail Holmes,” Jurgen spoke and Nikita chuckled. “Related to Katie Holmes?”
“No,” Jurgen shook his head back and forth. Gail was a bit more untraditional of a nurse, but Jurgen felt that she would work nicely. “She has really red hair.”
“How red?”
“Artificial,” Jurgen admitted and Nikita laughed. “Oh my… didn’t you interview anyone else?”
“I didn’t need too,” Jurgen shook his head and Nikita’s eyes narrowed. “What about Kate?”
“Kate isn’t a nurse,” Jurgen deadpanned and Jurgen leaned back. “I’m not attracted to Gail, Nikita. She used to work in a practice for another doctor who was by himself. He moved to Florida and she has experience in doing multiple things. Even billing.”
Nikita sighed in relief. She really liked Kate and Jurgen together. It was very clear that Kate was smitten with Jurgen and had been more confident since the two started to date.
“Now,” Jurgen sat back down on the stool. “Is there any other reason why you are here? You appear to be sleeping better.”
“I am,” Nikita nodded her head up and down. “Mick really helped with that. It went against everything that I was trained to do… and yet it worked.”
Jurgen reached for the paper file that he had started for Nikita. He had gotten some records from everyone and was in the time piecing together things. Jurgen hoped to get the records from Nikita’s previous visits to various hospitals, but it was troublesome, which told Jurgen that Paul Wolfe made sure that those records had disappeared. “I should run some blood work to just check on things… regular check-up kind of things.”
Nikita shivered and Jurgen pulled out his pen and laughed. “I can do this right now.”
“What are you, a vampire now?” Nikita quipped and Jurgen laughed. “Adrian gave you a lot of things, Nikita… I just want to be sure that there aren’t side effects that we don’t know about… and since you won’t tell me why you are truly here…”
Nikita clenched her jaw as Jurgen stood up and again and moved around the room, pulling together tubes and a needle. “How much are you going to take?”
“Three of these,” Jurgen held up the tube and Nikita turned her head to the side. “I hate needles…”
“I know.”
Nikita’s leg started to bounce and she turned to look at Jurgen. “I need to find another gynecologist… and I was hoping that you could suggest someone…”
Jurgen placed the tube down and leaned back against the counter. “Another one?”
“I’ve been seeing Madeline’s… and for obvious reasons… I think I need someone new… a woman…” Nikita explained and Jurgen knew that it was hard for Nikita to ask for this. But he was happy to hear Nikita asking for this. Everyone had an idea that something was going on physically between Michael and Nikita. It would be wrong for Nikita not to go to a doctor. Although Jurgen had heard that Nikita was told that she would never have a child. He wondered if she held onto some hope that a new doctor would tell her something different.
Jurgen pulled out a sheet that he had created for when he got more patients. He knew a lot of doctors from his years in the ER and he trusted a lot of them. The one gynecologist that was on his list was a female. “Dr. Sarah Gerrard… She has her own practice so you don’t end up being switched to another doctor if she is called out for a delivery or something…”
Nikita took the paper and smiled. “Good… I would hate to have it switched…”
Jurgen had wondered how Nikita got through the examinations before, but he guessed that she had done it somehow. “Nikita, I hope that you don’t think that this new doctor is going to be able to tell you things different from what you have been told.”
Nikita rocked back slightly on the table. “I… I…”
“Nikita…” Jurgen warned and Nikita blinked her eyes. “I have doubts about a lot of things, Jurgen. It’s highly likely that Madeline did tell me the truth… but there is enough doubt there… to wonder… Would you want me to continue to wonder?”
Jurgen had not thought about it that way and he swallowed hard. The patient teaching the doctor again. “Dr. Gerrard is going to be a good match for you. I’ve seen her in the ER and she is great.”
Nikita shifted and Jurgen reached out. “Where are you going?”
“I’m going to go meet Michael…”
“Not without me getting the blood work…” Jurgen held up the needle and Nikita cringed. “I thought you were just doing that to get me to tell you the truth.”
“I wouldn’t run a test without needing to run a test,” Jurgen pushed Nikita back. “Don’t worry… I’ll do my best that this doesn’t hurt…”
“You vampire!” Nikita hissed as she turned her head to the side, knowing that she couldn’t watch this.
