Walter was exhausted, but he continued to walk down the busy citys street, knowing that he was far away from Michael and Nikita for the moment. However, he had to resolve something now. He couldnt wait to handle this issue. It was eating him up, but now it started to make other things come into focus.

It wasnt easy when Section One was just simply gone. There was a good bit of chaos. Somewhere sure that it was just another mission and a way to make them do something to justify cancellation. Others simply disappeared. Walter was unsure but he had a good sense that this was the true reality for them. He had been around long enough to know what was a ploy and what wasnt. He stayed around to help those who wanted to really transition.

He had a lot of contact with Davenport. He would have been calling that man up if he wasnt working as a crew member on a cruise boat right now. Walter had heckled Davenport endlessly about taking the job, but in the last email from Davenport, he seemed to be enjoying the time and his job would end in about three months.

Looking back, Davenport had been trying to get Walter to book himself on the cruise that was happening right now, sailing thru the Panama Cannel. Walter had been tempted by didnt like how some things stood and didnt feel that it was the right time to go. He told Davenport maybe in a month or two. Walter now was so grateful that he hadnt gone. Would Michael have done something more extreme or would he have just never contacted Walter if he was on the cruise?

It had taken Walter a while to pry the information out of Michael, but he wasnt about to approach the person he was now walking behind without knowing more. Michael wasnt used to opening up. He was used to playing things very close to the chest. Walter didnt realize how many layers there were to Michael Samuelle until he spent time in that room with Michael as he watched over Nikita and realized how much he had gone thru to hide her life.

Explain to me how you got Birkoff to not only not break from character as Jason but to never tell me about Nikita? Walter asked as Michael sat back in his chair, keeping an eye keenly on Nikita.

What?

Birkoff is good but he was devastated when Nikita was cancelled and then Madeline manipulated him with that doppelganger Walter stopped and choked. Please tell me that it wasnt Nikita!

It wasnt, Michael shook his head from side to side. She was disgusted by the plot, but she couldnt get involved and Im sure that Birkoff would have known if it had been the real Nikita.

So how did he keep it from me?

Keep what?

That Nikita was alive, Walter almost snarled and Michael blinked his eyes slowly. He doesnt know that.

Walter stood up and shook his head. But it is Birkoff and not Jason.

There never was a Jason, Michael shrugged his shoulders and then stopped. Oh you think that me and Nikita approached him about what we were planning on doing.

Of course.

Nikita came up with how to make it happen but she was nowhere close to Birkoff when I talked to him about it.

Walter felt a headache growing. Michael watched Walter start to pace and he swallowed. Nikita knew Birkoff. She knew that he wouldnt be able to stop himself from telling about her being alive. It killed her that I couldnt tell him about him and that others had to be stopped from bringing him into the full fold but we needed him on the inside too often it was close and once Birkoff was Jason on the inside, some things were simpler in ways. But more difficult because we were lying to him.

So who is he now?

He has always been Birkoff, Michael replied and Walter shook his head. Because once out, he was still Jason to Walter.

Walter had been following the young man since he had slipped out of a comic store. That was much more Birkoff than Jason. It had pained Walter that even once they were out; Birkoff hadnt come clean to him. Walter would have understood and even then, he wouldnt have known about Nikita being alive.

You havent been returning my phone calls, boy, Walter spoke loudly as he placed a hand on the smaller mans shoulder and turned him around. He saw Birkoffs glasses and the shock in the eyes. He was not expecting that Walter was in the area. Ah what are you doing, Walter?

Walter tilted his head to the side. Jason you have lost your heavy Southern accent I didnt think that it would vanish in months some people never lose it Do they, Seymour?

The color drained out of Birkoffs face. Ah ah

Dont worry, Walter softened his tone as he could almost feel Birkoff shaking. Secrets were part of Section One and Im just glad that this one kept you alive.

With a heavy sigh, Birkoffs body slumped forward as Walter swung an arm around his buddy. But you could have told me when we left Section.

I havent heard anything from Michael, Birkoff rasped as he shook his head. Im not sure if Im role in this is done.

Walter swallowed hard. There was one reason why Birkoff hadnt heard from Michael. We should go get some coffee

I dont like coffee, Birkoff pointed out and Walter sighed. So you didnt keep that habit of Jasons.

The diner on the corner has milk and cookies.
