I was the person who first mentioned about audience volunteers being selected by the staff. One of the earliest articles I read about WL described how production staff members would watch the audience before the taping, creating a list of who might be good volunteers. The list was given to Drew before the taping started. The list described the potential volunteers and indicated where they sat. Drew was supposed to unobtrusively pick from the list.

The article specifically mentioned Margie the school teacher who played the Gunsmoke scene with Ryan and Colin. Dan P was quoted as saying they chose her because of how animated she was while waiting in line to go into the studio. He also said that their audience selection process didn't always work. The first time they selected a person to play Scene with an Audience Member, the game was terrible. That game never aired, he said.

At the Greg taping I was at, I got to see some of this first hand. To the left of my seat (way out of your sight and hearing range, Laura) and a row down, three audience members on the aisle that Drew does his intro from were moved out of their chairs and placed somewhere else. They were replaced by three young women. Then the woman in charge of seating the audience came and spoke with one of them. The lady in charge asked if the young woman worked for ABC or Warner Brothers, asked if any of her family worked for them, and then asked if she was willing to be on TV and do a skit with the actors.

An hour or so later, Drew chose her to play Dubbing.

I don't know if the audience preselection happened for every game. But I am convinced that it happened for Dubbing.
