Subject: ..and completed? I'm impressed! I have run a 5K...okay "run" may be an embellishment - I participated. Near 'bout died. So - for real, though - would you please share about your training and the race itself? Because other than doing it for a great cause - I'd like to understand why. This guy is pressuring me to run again and I kinda said I would in a moment of weakness and I need some motivation.

I got involved with the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society Team in Training after I got a flier in the mail. I wanted to get in shape, and I admit to being someone who needs a big push to keep at it, so I figured that knowing I would have to run 26 miles without dying would keep me motivated. Plus, I'm a doctoral student studying biology, so I liked the idea of raising money for resarch and patient support. In addition to that, two professors in my department (borthers) were battling leukemia at the time, so I ran in honor of them. Team in Training is an awesome program. A friend from school and I did it together, and it was great. We had a schedule about training that was 15 weeks-we started with 1 mile runs and worked our way up to the marathon. On Saturdays, everyone in central PA who was training ran together, so it was a great motivation. I would definitely do it again, but will wait until I am finished with school- it is quite a commitment to train, especially if you start from ground zero like I did!
