Pharmacists lobby against Internet drug sales

North Carolina pharmacists are sending a new warning about Internet prescription drug sales.

They've launched a campaign called "Looks Can Be Deceiving." Pharmacists say they worry when people use the Internet to buy prescription drugs from Canada.

Consumers use the Internet to save money but pharmacists say unregulated drugs could hurt you.

"You don't know what you're getting when you order a drug from an Internet source pharmacy," said Fred Eckel of the N.C. Association of Pharmacists. "Even though you think it may be Canadian, what we're finding out is they'll put a maple leaf on their web site, and be based in Barbados or something, and you just don't know what you're getting."

Pharmacists admit Internet drug sales hurt their business but they say their main concern is patient safety.
