JIGGERS 3/12/06,
ZIMBABWE'S economy staggers under weight
of 782% inflation.
Yearly inflation soarded to an all-time high of
782 percent in ZIMBABWE,the former breadbasket
of Southern AFRICA whose economy collasped from
years of drought and the government backed seizure
of white-owned commerical farms.(There was no mention
of black owned commercial farms,)I wonder why?
The average family of 5 needed about $90. just to
meet monthly basic food needs.
Trade unions say those still fomerlly employed-
about 20% of the work force-earn about $55. a month.
Workers on formerly White-owned commercial farms,
by contrast, earn as little as $3.a month from their
employers, many of them beneficiaries of PRESIDENT
ROBERT MUGABE'S "fast tract" land redistribution.
(I read that the people of ZIMBABWE got the land.
Will some one please inform me who received the land
that the White-farmers used to own.Did the "PEOPLE
receive the land or did friends of PRESIDENT MUGABE
receive the land.)
The seizure of the farms for redistribution to BLACK
ZIMBABWE'S (Did they receive the not so good land for
reedistribution while PRESIDENT MUGABE'S friends
receive the PRIME lands),combined with years of drought,
has crippled ZIMBABWE'S agriculture-based economy.
United Nations agencies say 25% of ZIMBABWE'S 12
million people are now dependent on international
food relief, even though the country was for years
a major food exporter to the region.
The nation is suffering its worst economic crisis
since independence from Britain in 1980-when $1
equaled $2 ZIMBABWEAN dollars.Today,$1 is equaled to
90,000 ZIMBABWEAN dollars.
Shortage of food,gasoline,medicines and other
essential imports are acute.
It was said that gross government mismanagement and
corruption have reversed a half-century of progress
in six years.
An all-party parliamentary committee warned before
the November start of this season's rains that
production whould be at a all time low because of
shortages of diesel fuel,seed,fertilizer,chemicals,
functioning farm machinery and skilled labor.
Farmworkers of MALAWIAN,ZAMBIAN or MOZAMBICAN
descent have been forced to return to their parents
and grandparents countries of origan following
evictions by PRESIDENT MUGABE'S land recipients.
PRESIDENT MUGABE conceded in December that
shortcomings in his land redistribution program
contributed to critical food shortages.
Poor planning,corruption,lawlessness,crumbling
infrastructure and shortage of fertilizer and seed
have compounded the effects of recurring drought.
Now,I whould like a refute, not from nobody but
the down to MOTHER EARTH people who will relate
the truth to what I have written.
I am tired of always reading what people in controll
say,I want to hear from my type of people. The poor
average people have to say.The ones that does all
the suffering. That means Children,"Women" and men....
