I just mapblasted and learned that Milton is near Quincy - who knew??? I thought it was somewhere near the former location of this feis (Norwood, right?)... Anyway, it was easy enough to mapblast from the studio. The 25 Gile Road address in Milton was provided on the NE Board by the feis committee...

Route summary
Start: 100 bridge road, salisbury, ma
End: 25 Gile Road, Milton, MA

Total distance: 47.1 mi
Estimated time: 1 Hour, 1 Minute

Driving Directions

The directions break it down mile by mile practically but the first 4 steps are:

ROUTE 1 South
over the Tobin ($3 toll)
Roundabout onto the Zackam Bridge
To Route 93 (through the tunnel)

Then,

At exit 10, turn RIGHT onto Ramp towards Squantum St. / Milton (0.1 mi)

Bear RIGHT (South-West) onto Squantum St (0.2 mi)

Turn RIGHT (West) onto Adams St (0.2 mi)

Road name changes to Centre St (1.4 mi)

Road name changes to Canton Ave (0.6 mi)

Turn RIGHT (North-West) onto Gile Rd (0.2 mi)

Arrive at 25 Gile Road, Milton, MA

If anyone knows of any landmarks to look for regarding above streets, let us know!

Alli's wig came in - the lady jane senior - and, while all the curls are tight as would be expected in a new wig, it seems the curls on the center of the back of the head are noticably short. Anyone else have this issue? Do you think it looks a bit funky? Thanks.

Celtic something soft shoes - $65
Black sole super flexi heavys - $135
(okay that they are super flexi for under 12 cuz they can't do toe stands).
Both are in the wide foot option that my girls fit into much better than the narrow.

Email me if you want me to bring them to the studio.

It was great to see a turnout of 15+ at the meeting the other night! We even shared different interests outside of Irish Dance (crazy, huh?) and we have folks interested in horseback riding, cooking, crafting and lots of supporting of kids' interests... We also learned that there are a lot of hockey moms in the group - do you women ever sleep??!!!

We have a great year planned and will be putting out a memo describing our mission and outlining the year in brief (well, that's a relative term for me!). It's a great time to get involved to help with lots of activities - fun way to pass the time, make new friends, and the dancers love when their parents are involved!

There will be an envelope with Booster Membership forms. Membership is $10 per family and worth every penny!

Thanks to all who were able to make it - Kinda crazy, I know, but trying to fit so much in to one hour is a challenge, to say the least!

Email any questions, suggestions, etc. AND, that fantastic opportunity to be the secretary is still out there so feel free to consider that - perhaps even as co-secretary with a friend (does that read 'desperate'?). Full description is in an email below!!!!

Time Flies and the second Wednesday of the month is upon us... I know these short weeks when we have Monday off can be a bit crazy but I hope to see many people at the Booster Meeting. We have just started signing up new memberships for the 2006/2007 year and can take your membership dues ($10 per family) at the meeting or some time soon. All are welcome to attend and see what's going on. We will be further clarifying our calendar for the year with a particular focus on matching fundraising activities with regular events.

Still in need of a replacement secretary to take Marianne's place so mull that one over! Marianne has the school list from last year as well as the booster members list so it would be a case of updating files rather than recreating from scratch!

The meeting is 5:30-6:30... Hope to see many of you there!

Attend most meetings and type up and email minutes to members and post on both of the message boards (voy and in waiting room)

Keep email list of members and school up to date. (School Directory -Would like to update the directory with birthdates, parents names and maybe cellno’s??? ) Marianne has this from last year so would be a matter of updating

Facilitate communication (Nancy communicates a lot anyway – this is mostly emailing notices of upcoming meetings, etc).

Handling of cards as needed (sympathy, congrats, etc)

If you are interested and have questions, I will be at the studio after 4 or you can try to email me. We may
VOTE if possible at tonite’s meeting or at next meeting if folks need to mull it over…

I just had to tell everyone that there continues to be a commercial showing that my mom is in... The commercial is for Brooksby Village/Linden Ponds (retirement communities) and lasts over a minute -- AT THE END, it shows a healthy woman, 81 years young, walking along in her compression shorts outside of Brooksby and that's my mom, Alli and Courtney's NANA - do you love it???!!! She's stayed young at heart and in good health through years of aerobic dancing, step aerobics, and now water aerobics, yoga and walking. My mom loves Brooksby "except for all the old people." (Actually she volunteers once a week to lead a sing-along with those in assisted living - lets just say they repeat requests for the same songs a lot!)

The commercial airs usually during the local news at mid-afternoon, mornings too, I guess...

Hi Booster Group 2005/2006 Members,

We will be having a preliminary planning meeting for the year this Wednesday at 5:15. The plan is that it could last 1.5 hours rather than the usual 1 hour monthly meeting so that some idea sharing can take place and some general discussion of major task areas for the year and volunteer needs. We will be setting a standard week, day and time for regular monthly meetings - so, if you can't make it this week, but want to be involved, send along days you are available and we will try to suit the majority.

I will be chatting with Chris prior to this Wednesday's meeting to find out just how we can best assist her in meeting her goals for the school for this coming year.

We have tentatively set the Dress Sell and Swap for October 1st and we can confirm that at our meeting together. I also would like to discuss using the sell and swap day as a Booster Group Membership Drive as well - nothing fancy. This timing would present a great opportunity for parents and dancers at the various levels to drop in and see what we are all about and get a good look at the renovated studio for those who have only had time to 'drop and run' so far this year!

Whatever your involvement level last year, you are welcome and encouraged to get more involved this year! Many hands make for light(er) work and many laughs along the way, as well...

Hope to see you there!

My apologies for any loose ends left behind after last year’s recital. I could fall back on the ‘my husband was away for ten weeks and my basement flooded’ excuse but it’s getting pretty old...

RECITAL DVDs

I have 3 copies – which I believe are for Hilary G, Kara K and Kerrie P. Ladies, I have them along with your checks made out to the videographer as I paid up front for these last dvds myself. I’ll leave the dvds and voided checks in the studio for you and you may leave a check or cash for me for $20 once you get those dvds in hand.

PHOTO ALBUM – 10 YEARS OF IRISH DANCE

I believe that the key thing that is needed to finish up the anniversary album is to put the names of the dancers on the pages that have the class photos (taken at the recital rehearsal). I will print up the list of names from my computer for those classes and post them on the bulletin board. If moms from the different classes could put those names in the proper order of how the dancers were sitting/standing in the photo, I can print up a listing on some decent paper and put them in the scrapbook, properly acknowledging all those dancers from the 10th anniversary school year. It would be nice to add those from the classes who were unable to participate in the recital, so we’ll add those names as “not pictured” as well.

In addition, there is room for headshots of dancers alone with Chris for the final pages of the album and room for a couple more photos of Traditional Set Winners and Solo Winners from the O’s if your dancer is not already pictured. I think that is it, but if you have something you feel could/should be added, let me know.

PHOTO ALBUM – THE DANCERS

Definitely some wrapping up to do here… I promised several folks a “packet” of scrapbooking materials (Was it $4 per page of materials to cover cost?) and I did not deliver – My Apologies. In addition, some folks did get their scrapbooking materials but didn’t submit their dancer pages to me. So, here’s the chance to get a page of your dancer in the Dancer Book if she isn’t already. I will leave packets at the studio next week, some marked with names of folks to whom I promised packets and some unmarked if your dancer would like to submit a page. Just sign out if you do take a packet and remember it is one page per dancer, include their name somewhere on the page, and don’t use glue (use scrapbook adhesive stickers or glue stick, if you must!). Return the finished pages and I’ll put them in the book by adhering them to the base pages… ANY questions, let me know!

If there are any other loose ends associated with the whirlwind that was the recital and the school’s year end, please let me know here on this board, in person or via email.

Thanks,
Nancy
Booster Group Prez

p.s. My husband and Barry are heading away for a week at a conference (and I’m not even jealous) so there’s my excuse lined up for tying up the tying up of the loose ends…

Nothing too fancy!
Just a down and not-dirty day
at the studio to bring
buyers and sellers together…

So, check your dress box, bucket, closet, or room for items you might be able to sell including:
Solo costumes, school dresses, wigs, ghillies (light shoes), heavy shoes and dancesneakers

Date and time: To be determined - A quick check of the calendar makes me think Sunday, September 30th, might work as it is sooner rather than later and it is before the long Columbus Day weekend (which happens to be the Torrington Feis weekend). Friday night, September 28th, is another option but I can't make that as someone special is turning Sweet Sixteen -- looking particularly forward to the SWEET part!

Any thoughts on day and time and willingness to help with this event, post here!

Reminder: all dress sales, including school dresses, are subject to Chris’ approval so that proper fit can be insured.

Also, Chris has started a list at the studio for ceili team dancers to note whether or not they have a dress that fits. We've also posted a SCHOOL DRESS FOR SALE list where those selling dresses may list their dress. Chris did some calculations and determined that the school recommends a price of $410 for a team dress in very good condition.

Hey Everyone and Happy End of Summer! Either I'm the meanest mom or the most honest (or simply the wackiest), but I'm smiling from ear to ear at the prospect of the school schedule, hectic as it is, getting back in place. It may be hectic but at least there is some schedule to follow - unlike the summer madness!

Well, I've missed everyone and am sorry to have been out of the loop for a while. Looks like some great dancing and competing continued over the summer. Though scheduling wouldn't allow them to do Chris' Monday workshop, my girls enjoyed the Bracken Workshop a great deal.

The studio certainly does look great and I'm sure it has come together even more since I was last there. Along with Heidi and Chris, I know a lot of moms put time into putting a fresh look on our home away from home! Thanks to all on behalf of all the dancers who will be dancing and sweating and on behalf of those moms and caregivers who will be warming the benches in the waiting area!

On behalf of the Booster Group, I would like to wish Chris, Heidi and all the dancers the best of luck in the 2006/2007 year! We look forward to getting our heads together and lining things up to support all of you in the exciting year Chris has planned for the second decade of DM!

We'll have to work out a meeting schedule and can discuss options for a standard monthly day and time as that seemed to work out well last year. All DM parents are encouraged to participate and we will certainly be sending along a welcome letter soon.

At this point, I thought I'd use the message board to post a meeting date for the second week of technique class - If I'm right, that would be Wednesday, September 20th. For this first meeting, a meeting time of 5:15-6:45 would allow for some overlap time between classes and ample time for introductions and getting down to business. Thereafter, regular monthly meetings would ideally be one hour long...But we can work on those details when we are together as a group.

If officers and past active members are able, I'd like to informally brainstorm some ideas during the first week of classes so that we can present our volunteer opportunities and needs with some degree of organization (or at least the illusion thereof at the September 20th meeting). Also, if our dance schedules don't overlap, feel free to email me with any suggestions (just click on my name in bold for my email address.).

Can't wait to see old friends and meet new families as well. Happy Labor Day!

Nancy
Booster group "president" -
though I use the term loosely!

ps. Funny Story - one of my kids once made a "Happy Labor Day" card recognizing 'all the moms who labor to have their babies and provide mankind for generations to come' - that still cracks me up!

Hi,

I was wondering if Chris or Heidi could let me know. I didn't manage to get Rebecca's form in while we were on vacation. :\ I did leave a message at the Studio on Thursday, but didn't hear back.

I'd like to put Rebecca in either workshop, preferably this week. Please let me know if we can just show up with a check in hand. ;)

Thanks~

By now, I am sure everyone is tucked away. Just wanted to say what a wonderful experience it was to have Thomas Bracken and John Smith back at D-M. The dancers are looking fabulous and the material is top notch! It is amazing to see the hard work and dedication from Novice to Open Championship and how they all pull together to get it to work. Nice job by all. Looking forward to tomorrow as it completes the 3 days and 21 hours of dance. As Thomas says, "Let the leg lift the dancer!" or is that "Espinosa?" If anyone can help out the next 2 weeks as the beginner workshop, please sign up at the studio! Sweet Dreams!

Help! I am looking for a volunteer to coordinate the school store during the Bracken Workshop and the New Beginner Workshop. New shorts, t-shirts, and tank tops will be in next week for sale. Jackets can be ordered directly from our supplier, Advertising Specialists @ 978-499-4444. I am looking for 15 minutes before the Bracken Workshop and 15 minutes after. During the New Beginner, if I could have a senior dancer or mom, it would be great. The new beginner moms would love a seasoned mom there to talk about the school and dance. If you could email Heidi if you are available. Her email is chcbogie@rcn.com. Thanks so much! P.S.-I am loving the studio every time I enter. It is really coming together!!!!

Hey All, Been a bit busy with floods and illnesses, but other than that, all is well ("Other than that Mrs. Lincoln, how did you like the play?")... Slowly back to business in terms of wrapping up the school year... The class photos have been put in the scrapbook but the pages have empty space where I intend to put the students names... I'll post the photos in the studio and work with the moms and teachers to get their names in the right order to match with the photos which will forever represent the students of the 10th anniversary year for DM.

Scrapbook note/question... I'm short about 4 or 5 Creative Memories Page Protectors (12x12) so handle the book with extra care - if anyone has a few of those to spare, great. Otherwise, I will get them from the consultant next week.

Hey everyone enjoying the warm weather? Well i was wondering if anybody found a pink bloch older style dance sneaker in their bag or seen one at the studio. I'm missing one. It's a size 8 and it should have my name on the bottem. If you've seen it or have it that's great if not that's great to.

Summer Workshop information will be out in the next couple days. It was brought to my attention that some had camp and school conflicts. I decided to change the classes to Mondays instead using the same weeks. Therefore, it should only impact (1) day for some due to camp commitments. The only commitment I will allow for the stated discount is for Dance Camp in New York. Hope this works out for everyone. I have also left a Ceili sign-up form at the studio. Please check off your dance so I can plan accordingly.

Make sure you pick up a copy of the Summer 06 Class Offerings Brochure next time you are at the studio. Heidi did a great job designing them. Lots of great information regarding summer class schedule for ALL levels!

Mitzi and I plan to be at the studio Friday 5/19 from 5-7 pm for dancers who want to practice. Cost is $3 per dancer or $5 per family, deposited with dancer's name attached in the payment box. See you there!

Everytime I try to tie up loose ends from the recital and before year-end, something holds me up! So, as I was adding the recital pages to the scrapbook, Mark announced (screamed) that we had water. Indeed, a full 6 inches in the basement, fire department pump in the basement that I had to run off and on through the night (what a sight I must have been) and tons of trash. Most valuables and keepsakes are okay. Oil burner is not. Thank goodness it is not freezing out and we have lots of neighbors offering their showers... So, that's my little story. No tragedy! But, I'll try to get to tie-dye socks, scrapbook will be back in the studio Thurs (if it kills me - sorry, I never meant to keep it more than a couple of days), and Sylvia and I still have to wrap up the year end photos deal... Hope all are faring well. Thinking of all our friends in low water areas.

p.s. Congrats to all at the Mother's Day feis - wonderful job - you always do DM proud with your dancing and sportsmanship.
