I intend to remove all the electioneering posts on the Forum after today. Thanks to all the people that posted messages, replies and comments. There was some debate about whether this website should host this 'political' topic but I think the sheer number of posts has shown that politics is not yet dead in Mountsorrel. Also I have been been impressed by the standard of debate and lack of personal abuse. So thanks to you all and see you in (up to) a year's time when we have a general election.

I thought there was meant to be a fair this weekend? Did it get rained off? I had a friend up for the day and having missed it in previous years, I thought I'd give it a go. Instead we went to Stonehurst Farm (anyone else think it's far too expensive btw?)

Plans for a new facility for recycling household waste in Leicestershire have been revealed.

Leicestershire County Council wants to replace the recycling and household waste site in Sileby with a state-of-the-art facility in Mountsorrel.

The new site - on an industrial estate on Granite Way - will offer improved access to the facility and also to the recycling containers.

Subject to approval, the new site will open in spring 2010.

Nick Rushton, the council's deputy leader, said: "This is a win-win for local residents - we will replace a cramped, out-dated site with a state-of-the-art facility with excellent access, which will make recycling even easier for local residents".

Can I just ask, why have people started parking their cars and VANS on the road coming up the green? It's a nightmare!!! Perhaps the council should pop some more double yellow lines along the road instead of wasting money on barriers that get nicked!!!

with our beloved (cbc) not,, has anyones rent gone down a bit as hearalded in the echo,?. well i did a bit of digging and heres what i found , and be free to check it out yourselfs, the govmt had £150 million quid to give councils to keep rents lower than inflation, and as inflation is nearly zero the rents were to be increast by 6.1%but now going to be set at 3.1%/ there bloody great at maths in the council, but check this out , go to the cbc ,s web site and look for tax and finance meetings ,cabinet report for 23 april 2009.
report of the chief executive, item 6 rent increase for council dwellings ,, scroll down and you will see a box with risks titled, but just above it is a paragragh that says that they want to increase it to £110. a week, that is there goal, so much for honesty, now it time for people to start shouting LOUD AND CLEAR ,that this is unacceptable ,and would be way to much for some on modest or low incomes to pay.

for information

last year Cllr Parsons had an allowance of £19,860.95 whilst the leader Cllr Rushton got £38,981.58 but even more interesting was that Your county councillor for Mountsorrel & Rothley ,Peter Osborne got £12,300.These payments are quite possibly on top of there other jobs, such as Peter Osborne who is also a borough councillor (Lead member of Finance - what a coincidence)at Charnwood Borough Council (and you all read newspapers) who are currently £2.5m in debt.Expect council tax rises from this conservative County & borough council to pay for there financial mis-managerment.

The old conservative promise at election time - No tax this year whilst elections are due but pay afterwards.

My question however is this - what have any of them done for Mountsorrel or Rothley except nothing, they cant even be bothered as i have been told on polling day to respond to emails or even have a voice on here.

I rest my case

Justin.

With regards to other councillor allowances etc

Parish Councillors are unpaid volunteers who purely do this for the benefit of their respective areas.

Borough councillors also get paid.Cllr Peter Osborne (Rothley & Thurcaston),John Capleton (Mountsorrel) and Cllr Leigh Harper-Davis (Mountsorrel)all conservative by the way get a whole range of wages, the minimum being £4,772 and then additional payments placed on top if your part of the cabinet (another £4,772 on top) or on a committee (amounts vary).

I wonder why a certain parish councillor left to become a borough councillor ?

An idea

Would anybody be prepared to form a residents working party for a day or series of days/evenings etc,to clear up any mess in the park and politely inform any offenders of their wrong doings etc.I will join in,if some residents/councillors would be equally keen.I'm sure that even CBC cleansing/environment would be keen to join in.

We could also invite the local press (i know them very well) to get some positivity/promotion in the village and highlight the problem further to those who have the responsability to undertake this task but fail.

Just an idea i'm floating.

Hi there, has anyone seen any flagpoles wandering around the village recently as mine has gone "walkabout" ? It was white, 12' long and used to live on the Green.

Can everyone please check their back pockets & garden sheds to see if it has gone into hiding ?

Thanks

Hello all!
I am a recently qualified motorcycle instructor living in Mountsorrel and looking to start my own training school.
To teach compulsory basic training I need a level tarmac area of at least 80 feet by 30 feet that is traffic free. Would only be needed for the odd morning and very rarely at weekends. If anyone has any suggestions or even a spare bit of tarmac please let me know!
Thanks for reading

The modern Hot Cross Bun is only an adaptation of the original. The original Hot Cross Bun dates back to 1361. This Easter, the original medieval recipe has been recreated by the in store bakery at Budgens. The Alban Bun as it is known is available to purchase in store now. In conjunction with this great opportunity to exerience a real Easter, there will be an Easter service hosted on the Budgens carpark on Good Friday at 11.00 am. Four Churches from Mountsorrel will be involved in the service. 10p from every sale of Alban buns will be donated to the Churches involved.

There's a lot of moaning on here but I think the 'Sorrel is great. Here are some reasons:

Houses are loads cheaper than Rothley or Quorn
I think the centre of Mountsorrel around the green is really pretty
We have loads of nice walks on our doorstep
There are several farmshops within easy reach
Unlike other villages, we still have some local shops
There's at least one decent pub

Any more?

When I go and visit my friends and they take me to their local park then we have a lot of fun on the childrens play area. When my friends visit me then I have to take them to Halstead Road park. There are 4 swings and a slide to play on. It is embarassing. Mummy remembers playing on the same slide. Why can't we have a colourful and up to date playground like all my friends have?

Dear residents

May I suggest the manufacture of thousands of little wooden buttermarkets which could be air-dropped over Rothley and Quorn to show them that despite the credit crunch, Mountsorrel craftmanship has not died!
