No, not Abba's latest hit (!) but the latest proposals from Whitehall, which must be making the coins jingle in Stan's pocket.

It appears that the latest Governmental scheme is to permit parish councils to invoke by-laws to allow them to fine people who are anti-social in the parish. Things such as dog-fouling, pavement cycling or unauthorised skate-boarding have been mentioned.

Are any of these a hazard in our village? Will the PC invoke this law - if it is passed?

Hello everybody
Ive stumbled upon this website and forum and have read some interesting previous threads. I wouldve liked to have known what others thought about the Boundary Park development because I was apposed to it, had i known about the forum.
Theyre good roadworks at the roundabout near the garage arent they? an accident waiting to happen i think. They remind me of christmas shopping, everybody coming towards you and its never your turn, whichever way you come. Since the A6 bypass we must have been downgraded to country bumkin status!

Stan, on another of the threads you were asking for comments from non-footballers during the world cup. How about this for an idea. If the PC managed to get the youth club organised then the young people could spend the time doing up the premises. Also, anyone else who wasn't watching the footie could also volunteer to join in & help them. The result would be a nice youth club and that people who weren't interested in footie would not get bored.

It would also mean that the police didn't have to waste time continually moving people round the village as there STILL isn't that much for them to do.

May I please refer the forum to the following excerpt from the Parish Council minutes taken from the meeting held on the 13th March 2006:

266. HILL TOP GARAGE
‘Mr M Lemon circulated photographs of Hill Top Garage which he had taken that day showing the poor state of the hood over the fuel pumps. Although this garage is in the Parish of Rothley, it was stated that as it is one of the entrance roads into Mountsorrel and therefore does not create a very good first impression of the village. It was reported that a Charnwood Borough Council vehicle had damaged the hood and that compensation had been awarded for the repairs to be made. It was proposed by Mr T Duffin, seconded by Mr F Newitt and agreed unanimously to write to Development
Control at Charnwood Borough Council to ask them if they can ensure that the necessary repairs are carried out’.

Can I / We please have an update as to the outcome of this correspondence and the proposed time frame to which the scope of works will be carried out to make the necessary repairs to Hill Top Garage.

Compensation has been awarded to the proprietor from the Charnwood Borough Council and you would imagine that they of all people would have been on top of ensuring the works had been satisfactorily carried out.

As at today (21/6/06) the Garage remains in an ill state of repair with seemingly no works having been carried out while the establishment falls deeper into disrepair.

Now I don't want to return to the bad, dark days of running people out of town for comments about the HTG, but enough is enough. The place is an embarrassment, granted, it provides an excellent service (if you call being a petrol station an excellent service) but it is an utter shambles and a health and safety hazard.

The council broke it... the council should do something about getting it fixed... they have paid for it after all.

Here's a thing... why don’t the Mountsorrel PC and Rothley PC WORK IN UNISON to sort the problem out... there's always a first, eh boys and girls.

A full and prompt update would be appreciated.

Following the success of the Mountsorrel and Beacon Hill Exhibitions,The Friends of Charnwood Museum are currently working on a project on lacemakers. This will result in an exhibition in Loughborough in April 2007.
Subjects will cover John Heathcoat, luddites and migration of lace workers from Loughborough and the Leicestershire villages to Tiverton,Barnstaple,Chard and Calais and even from Calais to Australia. Certainly Mountsorrel lacemakers are involved in this great story. If anyone in the village has any information on lacemaking, factories, people etc. i would love to here from you.

Not all of Rothley! Mountsorrel PC is trying to change its boundaries to the south and take in those parts of Rothley like the Rolls Royce estate, which physically ajoin Mountsorrel. The Boundary Commission adjusts the boundaries of parishes and wards at regular intervals and we have been trying to change the present anomalous boundaries for some time. The real break between the 2 villages is the green space between them, probably running through the Hill Top roundabout. Yes the Garage would then be in Mountsorrel!!
The residents are not too chuffed and I wonder if any of them read this Forum?

I've just seen the new signs on Halstead Park. "No motorbikes or golf" which then go on to mention CCTV. I've had a look around but they've certainly hidden the cameras quite well. Are there really any cameras, or is it just a threat in the hope someone will beleive that cameras are watching?

Hello everyone,

Does anyone out there want to learn sign language to sign with their babies/toddlers? If you have a deaf child and want to learn to sign with him/her..

I am deaf and would like to make a get-together for coffee and general chat to practise signs with other mums. I am happy to teach signs aswell if you want to know some.

My baby is 11 months old and loves watching sign language, he already signs doggy, the letter "A"!!

This is NOT an advertisement - I am not asking for money!!

I went to a baby sign class the other day and was shocked how poor the teacher's signing was!! And you have to pay them lots of money!!

Yes. I may be deaf but I'm human and don't bite!

Anyway, if your interested, email me on joanna@downes.me.uk.
cheers, Joanna.

Hello to all!

I couldn't help but notice the new development down in mountsorrel - The Waterside built by Black Hawk properties. Doesn't it look fantastic? I was just wondering what other peoples view points are on the development - as I personally think that a development such as this will make the world of difference to Mountsorrel village as a whole. It's about time we saw some originality combined with quality and not just the normal bogstandard boxes that are chucked up nowadays. I saw well done Black Hawk!

P.S. They have a website too, www.watersidelife.co.uk - just incase people haven't seen the development yet.

Regards,
Aurelia.

Nice to see that some of these houses are beginning to be occupied. Lets see what effect it really *does* have on the traffic problem.

And, while I'm mentioning the new homes, heres a quote from the Henson's Court brochure:

"Today the village boasts an impressive range of facilities and artial routes to East Midlands Airport, Leicester City Centre and the larger nearby towns of Loughborough & Coalville can provide additional services if required".

Since when have either Loughborough or Coalville been larger than Leicester City Centre?

The Parish Council are the one public body who are supposed to represent the village and the needs of the villagers. What, if anything, have they done to try and alleviate the great pensioners bus pass fiasco?

(This is where, unlike any of our neighbouring counties - who all offer countywide free travel for pensioners - the old people in Mountsorrel are only permitted free travel as far as Birstall before having to pay to get to town). Indeed, if the regulations are operated to the letter then they have to get off the bus in Birstall and get back on it again (!)

I was on a 127 in St. Margarets' the other day and witnessed a driver having to refuse to carry a (Mountsorrel) passenger who had a "free" pass as they hadn't got enough money for the fare.
