What struck me was that a young Chinese immigrant academic with no prior knowledge of Fred Rogers is now co-director of the center. And he resembles Fred too. I'm surprised that throughout Western PA, indeed across the entire the U.S., they couldn't find somebody with smarts and interest in the subject who also grew up with him. To me, that's more newsworthy than the angle Smith took. Maybe it should have been a higher ed Schackner story.
