Personally, I have a lot of respect for Vancherri, Mannella and Waseleski. All three worked at the PG during a period when the paper commanded some respect within the community.

I'm not sure about Barb, but Susan and Tom were nonunion. That gives one zero job protection and zero ability to negotiate a severance deal with the PG. The first round of nonunion types to get dumped at the PG, some 10 years ago, came from editorial, sports, and the entire Wash, DC, bureau. I was told secondhand that they all got screwed financially. I hope Susan, Tom, and Barb, were able to got something ($$$) that was at least not an embarrassment for leaving early.

As for what their leaving does to the PG, that horse left the barn long, long ago. It's been discused ad nauseam on this board. To that, I'll just say the PG under John Robby Block is long past the point where one person, no matter how good, could boost the paper's rep.
