I think some people here are clueless about the contract. Non-union staff can be dumped at any time. Guild members have to be dealt with in a prescribed manner and the company has the option of offering buyouts. If not enough take them then layoffs begin of less senior Guild members. Vancheri was Guild. Not sure about Manella, an Editorial Board member and Associate Editor. Tom was Editorial Page Editor but they've been extending these buyout offers to non-union management as well. They're that desperate to clean house before they either sell or close down.
