I hear it's a true story coming from Pirates camp, that the P-G's back-up baseball writer and photographer got into a shouting match in full view of the amused players.

Way to go, guys! Show them there's a team even more screwed up than the Buccos!

This is totally true. There was a blowup, but it was one sided.
What also is true is that people who were there have said Ron Musselman was totally out of line and also screamed at Pete Diana that "no one can stand you." It apparently stemmed from Diana setting up an early morning meeting with a player, he and Musselman and the reporter totally blew it off. Diana asked why the reporter didn't call and let him know. Then Musselman screamed at Diana that "I really don't care about this assignment, I'm treating this like a vacation." I know that is a shocker, huh? How Musselman has a job is beyond unbelievable to many.
This all happened in front of numerous players. The Pirates PR staff is also not very pleased with Musselman's behavior.

I got this from a friend who got it from someone close to Pirates: This story is true, for the most part. It happened last Monday or Tuesday, but not in view of players. The photographer was Peter Diana, one of the best sports photographers in the country. Further, the writer, Musselman, had referred to manager Clint Hurdle as Chris Hurdle. He said that pitcher James McDonald had hurt his wrist. It was outfielder Andrew McCutchen who had the wrist injury. McDonald had a different kind of injury.

Since when did Ron Musselman become the back-up Pirates beat reporter of the P-G?

I thought Bill Brink was the back-up reporter for Dejan.

Musselman's reported "bad behavior" aside, I thought his articles and writing from spring training were a definite upgrade over Dunlap.

I disagree. They were cookie cutter and formulaic. While I realize spring training can be pretty monotonous and that the Pirates are awful, there has to be a better story than going around the locker room and writing a "____ hopes to be better/more consistent/out of town by July" stories.

Dunlap, as difficult as he can be, at least got the Mazeroski/Walker story. I'm sure there are more stories like that in Bradenton if they did some listening and digging.

Musselman moved over when Dejan moved into his new role as feature writer and blogger. Brink is just a kid and was probably the only one available as a general assignment reporter to fill in with some of the stuff in the offseason.

So its Dunlap and Musselman. Yeehaw.

Musselman is not the backup.

Then who is? It's fairly common in spring training to have both writers spend some time in Florida and get a chance to know the team. Musselman and Dunlap have been the only regulars down there.
