Subject: New Pirates beat writer for P-G?

I hear they're hiring John Delcos, who covered baseball in the NY suburbs and has most recently been writing for a Mets website.

You know John Perotto will take to Facebook and Twitter to lament how unfair the decision is, which is pretty much why he didn't get it.

If you're going to bash me, at least spell my name right, for crying out loud.

It's not bashing you.
I'm being honest - and I wish someone had told you this when bashing the Nuttings in public. Right or not about them (and you probably were right ) you just don't do that in public. How can anyone realistically expect you to objectively cover the team on a daily basis?

No, it wasn't the best way to handle it but if you've ever been totally lied to, had your life turned upside down AND had Ogden minions trying to ruin your reputation in the business by making up total lies about you, I think it'd be hard not to fight back. If it would have been just a parting of the ways, it would be one thing. When people spread likes about you and try to have you blackballed out of the business then they've crossed the line. Contact me off-forum and I'll gladly give you the details that I'd prefer not to go any more public here.

First, sorry for the typo on your name.
Second, something at the risk of outing myself. I'm also a Nutting paper survivor, I got out before it got bad. Do you really think he has the power and capabilities to ruin a career? Be serious. He's all talk. Everyone in newspaper knows what a lousy company he runs, but we also know what a weak bully he is. Be better than him, you don't need to fight back, because you aren't the only person he's treated that way. We know what he is about, he's an afterthought and a joke in the publishing industry. Maybe I'm wrong about you. I think you write well, but I get the feeling by reading on other boards what you have Tweeted and put on Facebook that you have an extremely thin skin and feel the need to react to every little thing said. Don't. You can't change what Nutting did, but you can be a better person than him, which isn't hard to do. I took the high road on the way out of there even after I saw all the backstabbing and cheating and lies. That's how he does business.

I can't speak to whatever issues Mr. Perrotto had, but I can tell you this. The worst time of my 19-year newspaper career was a terrible 14 months I spent with an Ogden Newspaper. It was an awful place to work, a combination of beginners who were willing to take any job (like me) and lifers who'd had their souls destroyed by working so long in a place that valued the bottom line over everything else. "Cheap" is too mild a word. So I can sympathize, although I agree it's best to keep one's innermost thoughts about a past employer out of social media. Trashing a former employer -- even a notoriously bad one -- will never do you any good. Warn people one-on-one as a professional courtesy, but don't put it in "writing" where a Google search might find it with your name attached.

Is this a joke? Delcos was the Steelers' beat writer for the P-G -- briefly -- in, I believe, 1985. Don't think he made it out of training camp before then-SE Bruce Keidan changed his mind and gave Ed Bouchette the Steelers' beat. He's had it ever since, and Delcos didn't stay around.

It wasn't a joke, it almost happened. But now it's decided P-G's Pirates coverage is a tag team of Brink and Sanserino.

That is what the P-G is going with to cover a Major League Baseball team?
Talk about waving the white flag.
Both of those young men should be underlings to Mike White, nothing more.

The young fellows could use some guidance, which they won't get.

But considering the season started with Dunlap on the beat, there really isn't a loss of quality on the coverage.
