I think the Times has just four on-staff sports writers left: Mike Bires, Chris Bradford, Eric Hall and Chuck Curti. Everyone else is free-lance. That sports section was solid a few years ago when John Perrotto (now free-lance), Bill Utterback (now writing news), Chris Harlan (now at the Trib) and Jim Equels (now free-lance) were still on-staff writers. There might be others I'm forgetting.

I think this tells you how far the Beaver County Times has fallen:

In the days when guys like Perrotto and Prisuta were at the BCT, you'd get a story like this on a local kid who hit bottom and made it to the NFL:

Well, we might not know that Tommie was cleaning toilets at the airport for a time but we do know that he spouts cliches like "Once a Quip, always a Quip."

Might that be because the Times already did that story back in February?
