Subject: Madden on Sandusky

Madden gets ripped a lot on this board and the TV/Radio one. I don't have feelings either way about him--don't watch TV and don't listen to sports radio. But it looks like Madden was on to something back in April. Even if he was following on the Patriot-News, I don't remember anyone in Pittsburgh touching this

The rumor he floated today will ruin his career.

He's trying to get noticed in all of this, and it's going to go nuclear on him.

REAL Pittsburgh journalists wouldn't simply rip off the Patriot-News, as Madden did, they would not publish something until they did their own work.
And for Madden to gloat on Twitter that he had the column in April over the P-G and Trib, what a scumbag.
Journalism will be a better place when Madden is no longer a part of it.

Believe me, I didn't post this item to defend Madden. I guess what I'm really wondering is why no Pittsburgh sports reporter or columnist pursued the Sandusky news in April and beyond. At least Madden stood up and called a spade a spade. I only see two mentions of the Sandusky investigation in the PG archive from March/April--a brief story noting the Patriot-News' breaking of the story, and a final paragraph in a Musselman story saying that Paterno wouldn't comment. Again, why no pursuit from the city's major newspaper and, presumably, the Trib?

Madden just read the Patriot-News site, spat it out as his own and now has to backtrack because, justifiably, people are pushing back on the claim.

BTW, Madden's foray into "journalism" didn't last long. He was interviewing some pole dancer/porn star and asking her how many men climax from the lap dances she offers.

Be proud, Clear Channel.

Sounds like Madden was prophetic on this one...I do recall something about Sandusky and allegations in print awhile but it went away quickly or wasn't, obviously, pursued in depth by the media.

[> [> Before we go to great praise on Madden -- Media follower, 08:49:47 11/24/11 Thu [1]

Right after people were congratulating Mark Madden for his column of last April, he showed his true colors by then hinting on a Boston radio talk show Jerry Sandusky may have been prostituting boys in his Second Mile charity to wealthy Penn State donors.

And people picked up on this. Several nationally syndicated talk show hosts (Mike Gallagher is the one I'm familiar with), went on the airwaves telling his audience he was trying to get Madden on as a guest to explain further.

Funny how Mark Madden has now been silent about this, hasn't gone on these shows despite his love of attention, etc.

Yes, I realize anything is possible. But despite "two columnists working on the story" (and wouldn't reporters be better suited to investigate such matters instead of columnists), nothing has come of this story.

Frankly, the bombshell Madden was "breaking" sounds like piling on; one of the worst things a person can do in journalism.

This is about the only way Jerry Sandusky could be viewed as a sympathetic figure. Only Mark Madden could accomplish that.

Rush Limbaugh told his audience he didn't pick up on the Sandusky prostituting minors rumor because it came from "fringe sources."

Like him or not, Rush deserves props for unintentionally but accurately describing Madden.

If reading the Patriot-News website and regurgitating it without credit is prophetic...
