Subject: Rossi out as Pens beat writer?

What happened to Rob Rossi?
He is(was) suddenly on the Penn State beat.

Is he officially out as the Pens beat writer?
There are a number of rumors:
-The Pens had him removed from the beat after an argument with Pens staff
-Crosby didn't want him around (for various reasons)
-He said some disparaging comments about certain players (Crosby) on Madden's show
-He became frustrated with the lack of cooperation from Pens regarding the Crosby concussion issue
-He was "promoted" (to the Penn State beat? really?)

What is the truth?

LOL. Hockey fans should stick to the trade rumors. This was going to be Rossi's last season on the beat. At the start of the year he had a medical problem that kept him from flying, so Josh Yohe made the trips. Then it made more sense to jump the schedule forward and have just Yohe take over the beat now. Rossi is on Penn State at the moment but the bigger picture is he's on investigative/special projects. Penn State happens to be the hot story in that realm right now.

Rossi hasn't been "demoted" although a hockey fan would probably see it that way. He's moving up to bigger and better things and may be sports editor soon. He was responsible for brokering the deal to bring Dejan to the Trib. He's being promoted.

LOL at Crosby's perceived "power" to dictate policy at the papers. Only a hockey fan would believe that.

Another good example of the wrong people moving up in the world. This guy makes up rumors of Geno Malkin being traded, then kills those rumors a few weeks later. That's journalism?

He was average at best in terms of his writing style. Hell, he didn't have one unless he stole from ESPN Magazine and tried to pawn it off as his own when he was working for FREE at the Post-Gazette a decade ago.

If he becomes a sports editor, I will light myself on fire and run down the Blvd. of the Allies while the ghost of Roy McHugh pelts my charred remains with half eaten Primanti sandwiches.

I actually think the idea of Rob Rossi as sports editor is intriguing.

But that is the line of the year, my friend.

Don't worry about the next 361 days. That's the winner.

Well I'm glad I can humor you...As for Rossi, I can't say I honestly know him, but what little I do doesn't impress me. Just another hack from the WVU school of Journalisim who thinks his crap doesn't stink...Somewhere, Colin Dunlap is doubled over in pain.

Too funny, a guy get's a well deserved promotion and Pens fans spin it as being "ousted" (front page of PensBlog)? Wishful thinking tPB but not even close.
First a war against Madden and now Rob Rossi? Who is next Stan Savran?

That thought is frightening. His temperment is just slightly to the right of his pal, Madden. But, then Rob the boss would fit right in with Cuddy -- aka Attila the Editor.

I'm no fan of Kevin Smith but putting Rossi in that job would be further proof of how poorly the Trib is managed.

It really is ironic how all these newspaper people are posting online about bloggers. Newspapers are a dying medium. Blogging is the future. Pens fans get their news and information from blogs not newspapers. The Pens Blog happens to be the most successful blogs in Pittsburgh let alone in the hockey world. It has a tremendous followership and influence among Pens fans. What they command Pens fans do. Let a newspaper try that.

This would have some credibility except most blogs do nothing but poach from mainstream media.

Left to their own devices, they report bullshit like Sidney Crosby getting Rob Rossi removed from the Trib hockey beat.

"Followership" Love it! Some of us find illiteracy engaging.

ABSOLUTELY NO ONE gets their Penguins news from a blog. Don't confuse (alleged) popularity with impact. The only good hockey blogs (PuckDaddy, Empty-Netters) are run by pros. Everything else is just amateur hour, particularly the horrific ThePensBlog, which seems to be (inaccurately) covering the media that covers the Penguins, as opposed to covering the Penguins. A PensBlog rep posed as the P-G's Ron Cook to get an interview w/Jagr's agent. Pathetic.

You are confusing "news" with impact. News has no impact, it simply informs. Opinion has impact. No one at the PG has any opinion power (impact), save maybe the tiny amount Bob Smizik has which isn't saying much.

Blogs on the other hand have a huge impact. Refer to Andrew Conte's "Breakaway" he explicitly states that Pens fans activism swayed the Gaming Board decision.
That activism was powered by blogs, specifically The Pens Blog.
Now that is true power.

I wouldn't test them. Madden tried and nearly lost his job, again.
Most media types in this town are smart enough now to either kiss their feet (Yohe, Dunlap, Mueller) or just leave them alone (Dejan, Rossi, PG staff).

One would be wise to not test that power, do so and you may be the next to get jobbed.

Quit using this board to promote your sorry little circle jerk of obsessed hockey fans. Nobody cares about your delusions.

You already have the followership. You said so yourself. What else do you want?

Just so you know, the hockey blogs were all promoting Isle of Capri to get the gaming license. It didn't go that way. No wonder Conte's book has sold 400 copies. He should have done it in comic book form to get the hardcore hockey fans.

BTW, you're not fooling anyone with the multiple names. Your writing "style" comes through, no matter what you call yourself.

All hail, the great and powerful Oz! LOL What a tool you are with your exaggerated sense of self importance. How dare anyone "test that power."

Indeed, these are the same clowns who "reported" a rumor about Rob Rossi when he was temporarily moved to the PSU story. Then, they had to backtrack on everything and told Dejan that they "have nothing more to say about it."

Keep throwing untrue crap against the wall. In the real world that will get you sued.

As for posing as Ron Cook, I'm guessing these clowns failed Media Law and Ethics at Point Park. The school must be so proud of your accomplishments.

>> Blogs on the other hand have a huge impact. Refer to Andrew Conte's "Breakaway" he explicitly states that Pens fans activism swayed the Gaming Board decision.

Wait, what? Pens fans wanted the casino license to go to Isle of Capri, because that outfit would build a "free" hockey arena near the casino in the Lower Hill. Pens fans wrote letters, wrote emails, called radio shows, acted like petulant children for the most part -- and the gaming board STILL gave the casino license to Don Barden on the North Shore.

If the activism "swayed" the gaming board in any way, maybe it was in that voluntary annual contribution from the casino license holder toward arena debt payments -- but even that level of alleged influence would be stretching it.

So, you had some webcam slut bait Madden into a debate, & he got his wrist slapped...
You printed a false story about Rossi...
You posed as Ron Cook to interview Jagr's agent...
Yes, indeed, ThePensBlog is indeed revolutionary!
Have you ever broken news about HOCKEY? Or the PENS?

Rob is back tweeting Penguins and NHL again.
Reports of his demise were just slightly exaggerated.

But what about the glass office being reserved for Rob in the Clark Building?! Greatly exagerrated as well? And when are they gonna bring back The Spin?! Who knows, hockey fans might get it...

Rob is back on Pens Radio 24-7 now too...so much for those Pens Blog sources "Scoop" Derek, by the way you managed to go 2 hours without mentioning Madden or Benz on twitter, good job. (obsessed much?)

So...Rossi was promoted? So much for that "blog power" huh.
What about Madden? Did they get him fired yet?
